Overview

The Hoover WindTunnel™ is an upright vacuum cleaner designed for household use, featuring HEPA filtration and a focus on easy assembly and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Hoover WindTunnel™ is an upright vacuum cleaner primarily designed for cleaning carpets and floors. It utilizes a powerful suction system combined with a rotating agitator brush roll to effectively remove dirt and debris. The cleaner incorporates HOOVER® HEPA Filtration Type "Y" filter bags to capture fine particles and allergens, ensuring cleaner air is returned to the room. It also includes a hose and various cleaning tools for above-floor cleaning, reaching tight spaces, and cleaning stairs. Some models are equipped with an "Embedded Dirt FINDER™" feature, which uses red and green lights to indicate areas with high dirt accumulation, guiding the user to take additional cleaning strokes for optimal performance. The cleaner is designed for easy maneuverability with multiple handle positions (upright, operating, low) and features like edge groomers for cleaning near baseboards and furniture.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Safety Features: Polarized plug, thermal protector to prevent overheating.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Assembly: Designed for straightforward assembly, with clear instructions for attaching the rack, handle, and hose. A white switch lock aids in assembly and should be removed once complete.
  • Handle Positions: Three positions: upright (for storage and tool use), operating (for general cleaning), and low (for reaching under low furniture). The handle release lever allows for easy adjustment.
  • Carpet Height Adjustment: A nozzle control knob allows users to slide the nozzle to the correct setting for various carpet pile heights, from "Lowest setting" for all carpet types to "Higher settings" for very deep pile carpets. The nozzle adjusts only when the handle is in the operating position.
  • ON-OFF Switch: Simple push-up for ON, push-down for OFF.
  • Cord Management: Cord hooks for storage and a cord clip to keep the cord out of the way during vacuuming. The top hook can be rotated for easy cord release.
  • Embedded Dirt FINDER™ (some models only): A sensitivity switch ("Hi" or "Reg.") allows users to adjust the feature's sensitivity to dirt. Red light indicates high dirt, prompting additional cleaning strokes; green light indicates the area is clean or picking up fine dust.
  • Cleaning Tools: Includes a dusting brush, furniture nozzle, crevice tool, and wands for extended reach. These tools are stored on the cleaner and are used when the handle is in the upright position.
  • Hose Use: The hose must be connected as shown for all operations. It can be disconnected for tool use and reconnected for storage. An optional "Extra reach hose" (available at additional cost) provides an additional 20 feet of reach.
  • Edge Cleaning: Special edge groomers on both sides of the nozzle remove dirt near baseboards and furniture.
  • Stair Cleaning: A dedicated stair cleaning handle is designed for ease of use on stairs.
  • Lightweight Flexible Rug Cleaning: Technique described to prevent rugs from clinging to the cleaner by lifting the nozzle.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Bag Replacement: The filter bag should be checked regularly and replaced when full or when very fine materials clog the pores, even if the "Check Bag" indicator (if present) does not show red. Genuine HOOVER® HEPA Filtration Type "Y" disposable filter bags are recommended.
  • Secondary Filter Cleaning/Replacement: Located behind the grill in the bottom of the bag compartment, it protects the motor. It can be pulled off, hand-washed in cold water with mild detergent, air-dried, and repositioned. Replacement part No. 38765019.
  • Final Filter Cleaning/Replacement: Assists in the filtration process. It can be lifted out, hand-washed in cold water with mild detergent, air-dried, and repositioned. The green side should face outward. Replacement part No. 40110004.
  • Agitator Brush Roll Belt Replacement: The belt should be checked periodically for stretching, cuts, or breaks. Instructions are provided for removing the bottom plate, agitator, and old belt, then installing a new genuine HOOVER belt (part No. 38528033).
  • Agitator Brush Roll Replacement: Brushes should be checked for wear (if they don't touch a card moved across the bottom plate) and replaced if worn. Available in 13" (part No. 48414110) and 15" (part No. 48414115) sizes.
  • Headlight Bulb Replacement: Instructions for removing the lens, pulling out the old bulb, and pushing in a new 12-volt wedge base type 912 bulb (Hoover part No. 27313101).
  • Edge Groomers Replacement: Replace when worn. Part No. 39511004.
  • Clearing Blockages: A systematic approach to check for blockages in the filter bag, hose, dirt tube, and under the bottom plate and agitator shield.
  • Thermal Protector: An internal thermal protector automatically shuts off the cleaner if it overheats. Users are instructed to turn off, unplug, check filters and blockages, and allow 30 minutes for the motor to cool and the protector to reset.
  • Lubrication: The motor bearings are pre-lubricated for life and should not be lubricated by the user. The agitator ball bearings should be periodically lubricated by an Authorized Hoover Service Center or Dealer.
  • Cleaning Tools: Tools can be wiped with a damp cloth and mild detergent or washed in warm water with detergent and air-dried.
