This document is a service manual for Hotpoint Ariston Washing Machines, specifically covering LED display models ARXXL105EU and ARXXL105IT, and the DIGIT display model ARXXF125EU. It provides essential information for servicing and maintaining these appliances.
Function Description
The Hotpoint Ariston washing machines are designed to wash clothes using various programs and options. They feature a control board that manages all machine functions, interfacing with a program selector, option buttons, and LED indicators on the console panel. Users can select programs by turning a rotary switch and choose special options by pressing corresponding buttons. The machines are switched on via an On/Off button, and selected programs are initiated by pressing the Start/Cancel button.
Key automatic features include:
- Auto Half Load: This feature adjusts the amount of water used based on the absorbency of the garments in the wash load, optimizing water consumption.
- Fabric Conditioner Dispensing: Fabric conditioner is dispensed by energizing both the Pre-Wash and Main Wash cold valves.
- Out of Balance Protection: The machine incorporates a system to prevent spinning with an unbalanced load. It calculates the current drawn by the motor during distribution via the motor tacho and control board. Before each spin, the controls sense the load in the drum. If an imbalance is detected, the machine will not automatically spin at full speed. There are two levels of imbalance: level 1 (480 grams) and level 2 (1030 grams). If the imbalance is below level 1, the machine spins at full speed. If it's between level 1 and level 2, it spins at a reduced speed of 600 rpm. If above level 2, it spins at 400 rpm. There are 15 attempts at level 1 and a total of 57 attempts for both cotton and synthetic spins. For wool spins, there is one level of imbalance at 1.8 kg, with three attempts to achieve balance. If balance is not achieved after three attempts, the spin speed is reduced to 90 rpm.

Usage Features
The washing machines offer a user-friendly interface with program selector dials and option buttons.
- ON-OFF / SELECTING A PROGRAMME: The machine is turned on by pressing the ON-OFF button, which illuminates all indicator lights for a few seconds. Users then turn the program selector dial to choose a desired program, load laundry and detergent, and select any required options. The estimated program time is shown in the display window. Pressing the Start/Cancel button initiates the program, accompanied by a beep and a "CLUNK" from the door lock solenoid, after which the door locked indicator symbol lights up.
- TO STOP OR CHANGE A PROGRAMME: To stop or change a program, press the ON-OFF button for approximately 3 seconds, then select PUMP OUT on the program dial, switch on and re-start. If the machine has finished emptying, press the ON-OFF button, select a new program, and re-start. Caution is advised when removing laundry from hot wash or dry programs as it may be very hot.
- PROGRESS INDICATOR LIGHTS: These lights illuminate to indicate the progress of the selected program. The first light stays lit during the cycle, and successive lights illuminate as the program progresses.
- DOOR LOCKED INDICATOR LIGHT: This light indicates when the door is locked. It stays lit throughout the program. Once the program finishes, the light goes out, and the door can be opened after a double "CLUNK" from the door lock solenoid. If the door is not closing properly, the door lock solenoid will "CLUNK" approximately 5 times, followed by a flashing DOOR indication in the display window for 5 seconds, and a bleeping noise. Pushing the door closed and pressing START/PAUSE will commence the cycle.
- CHILD LOCK (Model ARXXF125): To set, press and hold the Child Lock button for 2 seconds. A red LED illuminates, indicating the function is active. To remove, press and hold the Child Lock button down for 2 seconds. The Child Lock option must be removed before another program can be selected.
- OPTIONS: Options are selected by pressing a button, confirmed by an orange LED. If an option is unavailable for a program, the LED flashes, and a bleeping noise is heard.
- TIME DELAY: Delays the program start time between 1 and 24 hours.
- MINI LOAD (MINI CARICO): For smaller loads, reducing washing time, water, and energy consumption by up to 50%. Users can also reduce detergent amount.
- EXTRA RINSE (EXTRA RISCIACQUO): Adds an extra rinse for large loads, items for young children, or people with sensitive skin.
- EASY IRON (STIRA FACILE): Reduces creasing to minimize ironing time.
- SPECIAL PROGRAMME DESCRIPTIONS:
- FRESH UP (15 MIN): Load 1.5 kg, Cycle duration 15 minutes. A fast wash program with similar performance to a 30° wash.
- SANITARY: Load 6.5 kg, Cycle duration 3.5 Hours. A 90° program using bleach to remove bacteria.
- NIGHT CYCLE - Temperature 40°C - Spin 800 rpm: Load 4.0 kg, Cycle duration 4.0 Hours. Designed for quiet operation at night, minimizing noise and energy consumption. The drum remains suspended in water to avoid noise from the final spin.
- BABY - Temperature 40°C - Spin 800 rpm: Load 2.0 kg, Cycle duration 1 Hour 50 minutes. Removes detergent residue from clothes to prevent allergic reactions on delicate skin, using more water.
- DEMO MODE (ARXXF125EU): To activate or deactivate, press and hold the ON/OFF, EASY IRON, and START/PAUSE buttons simultaneously.
Maintenance Features
The manual provides detailed dismantling instructions for various components, emphasizing safety precautions.
- Safety Notes:
- Always disconnect the appliance from the electrical supply before dismantling.
- Beware of sharp edges on metal and plastic parts.
- Tighten fixings (especially into plastic) to the correct specification using a torque wrench.
- Perform insulation resistance tests with the pressure switch set to ensure the water heater is "in-circuit."
- After servicing, recheck for Electrical Safety.
- For appliances connected to water, check for leaks from seals, gaskets, and pipework.
- Error Codes: The machine indicates faults via flashing LEDs (LED models) or a display (DIGIT models). A chart defines error codes (F01-F18) and their possible causes, such as motor triac short circuit, motor jammed/tacho detached, NTC short/open circuit, pressure switch issues, heater relay stuck, setup errors, pump activation failure, communication errors between cards, and door lock errors.
