Function Description

The Hotpoint cooker hood is designed to extract fumes and odors generated during cooking, ensuring a well-ventilated kitchen environment. It can operate in two main modes: ducting version (suction) and filter version (recirculation).

In the ducting version, fumes are conveyed outside the building through a special pipe connected to the hood's outlet. This mode requires an exhausting pipe of a diameter equal to the connection ring on top of the hood. If the hood is supplied with an active charcoal filter, it must be removed for this mode.

In the filter version, aspirated air is degreased and deodorized before being recirculated back into the room. This mode requires the installation of an additional filtering system based on activated charcoal, which may be included as an accessory kit or purchased separately.

The hood features a control panel for selecting aspiration speed and controlling the cooking area lights. Different models may have slightly varied control panel layouts, but the core functions remain consistent.

Usage Features

The cooker hood offers various operational features to enhance your cooking experience:

Control Panel: The hood is equipped with a control panel that includes buttons for aspiration speed selection and lighting control.

  • Button ON/OFF Suction Motor (T1): Activates or deactivates the hood's suction motor.
  • Selection Button for Medium, High, and Intensive Operating Suction Speed (T2/T3): Allows you to choose different levels of suction power.
    • Medium Speed: Suitable for everyday cooking.
    • High Speed: For more intense cooking fumes.
    • Intensive Speed: Provides maximum suction for approximately 5 minutes, after which it automatically reverts to a lower speed (medium or high, depending on the model). This is indicated by a flashing LED (L1 or L3).
  • Selection Button for 'Silent' Suction Speed (T3/T5): Activates a low-noise suction mode, ideal for maintaining a quiet kitchen.
  • Button ON/OFF Lighting (T4/T6): Turns the cooking area lights on or off. The lighting system uses LED technology, offering optimal illumination, long lifespan, and energy efficiency.
  • Automatic Shutdown Button (Timer) (T4): Available on some models, this button allows you to set a timer for the hood to automatically shut down after a specified duration (e.g., 10, 15, or 20 minutes) for different suction speeds.

Status Indicators (LEDs): LEDs on the control panel provide visual feedback on the hood's status:

  • Status Icon Suction Speeds (L1, L2, L3): Indicates the currently active suction speed.
  • Status Icon Saturation Indicator for Grease Filter (L2/L4): Flashes to alert you when the grease filter requires cleaning.
  • Status Icon Low (Silent) Suction Speed (L3/L5): Indicates that the silent suction mode is active.
  • Status Icon Saturation Indicator Charcoal Filter (L4): Flashes to alert you when the charcoal filter needs replacement. This indicator is normally disabled and needs to be activated manually.
  • Status Icon Lighting (L5): Indicates when the lights are on.

Automatic Operation at High Temperature: The hood is equipped with a sensor that detects high temperatures. If the temperature becomes too high, the sensor automatically activates the medium suction speed. The hood will switch off once the temperature has significantly lowered. This is indicated by L1+L2+L3 flashing in sequence on some models.

Electrical Connection: The hood must be connected to the mains power supply according to the rating indicated on the internal plate. If supplied with a plug, connect it to an accessible socket. If direct mains connection is required or the plug is not accessible, a double-pole switch conforming to safety standards must be installed to ensure complete disconnection from the mains. Always verify correct cable assembly before reconnecting.

Installation: Installation requires careful adherence to the provided instructions and diagrams. It is crucial to maintain minimum distances between the cooking equipment on the hob and the lowest part of the range hood (not less than 50cm for electric cookers and 65cm for gas or mixed cookers). Always wear work gloves during installation.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the hood's optimal performance and safety.

General Cleaning:

  • Clean the hood regularly, both inside and outside, at least once a month.
  • Use only a cloth dampened with neutral liquid detergent.
  • DO NOT use abrasive products, tools, instruments, or alcohol for cleaning.
  • Clean the perimeter aspiration panel with the same frequency as the anti-grease filter, using a cloth and non-concentrated liquid detergent.

Maintenance of the Anti-Grease Filters:

  • These filters trap cooking grease particles and must be cleaned once a month.
  • The cleaning frequency may be indicated by the filter saturation indicator system (if available on your model).
  • Clean using non-aggressive detergents, either by hand or in a dishwasher (set to a low temperature and a short cycle).
  • Discoloration of the grease filter after dishwasher washing is normal and does not affect its filtering capacity.
  • To remove the grease filter, pull the spring release handle.

Maintenance of the Charcoal Filter (for Filter Version):

  • The charcoal filter absorbs unpleasant cooking odors.
  • Its saturation depends on cooking type and grease filter cleaning regularity.
  • The cartridge must be replaced at least every four months, or when the filter saturation indicator (if available) signals the necessity.
  • The charcoal filter cannot be washed or regenerated.
  • To assemble, hook the filter at the back onto the metal tongue of the hood, then secure the front with the two knobs.
  • To disassemble, turn the knobs fixing it to the hood by 90°.

Reset Filter Saturation Indicator:

  • After cleaning the grease filter, press and hold button T3 (or T1 on some models) until the saturation icon switches off.
  • If both grease and charcoal filter saturation icons are on, repeat the process for both.

Activation/Deactivation of Charcoal Filter Saturation Indicator:

  • This indicator is normally disabled. To activate it, with the hood off, press and hold T1 and T3 (or T4 and T5 on some models) simultaneously until the L4 (or L1 and L2) LED flashes and then stays on.
  • To disable, repeat the same operation until the LED flashes and then switches off.

Replacing Lamps:

  • Warning! Disconnect the appliance from electricity and ensure light bulbs are cooled down before touching them.
  • Replace old bulbs with new ones of the same type as specified on the feature label or near the light lamp.
  • For models with halogen lights (e.g., PHBS6.7FLLIX, PHGC models, PHFG models): Carefully pry loose the light cover with a flat head screwdriver, remove the damaged light, and replace with a new 12 Volt, 20 Watt (Maximum) halogen light with a G-4 base. Reinstall the light cover.
  • For models with LED lighting (e.g., PHBS 6.8F LTI X, PHBS 9.8F LTI X, PHC models): Contact technical service for replacement, as these are designed for long life and energy efficiency.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always disconnect the hood from the mains before any cleaning or maintenance.
  • Always wear work gloves during installation and maintenance.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in the premises, especially when the hood is used with other gas or fuel-burning devices.
  • Do not flambé under the range hood, as exposed flames are detrimental to filters and pose a fire risk.
  • Exercise caution during frying to prevent oil overheating and ignition.
  • Accessible parts of the hood may become hot during cooking.
  • Do not connect the appliance to the mains until installation is complete.
  • Follow local regulations for fume discharge.
  • Do not discharge air into a flue used for other fuel-burning appliances.
  • Never use the hood without correctly mounted lamps or effectively mounted grids.
  • The hood is not a support surface unless specified.
  • Use only supplied or correct type fixing screws.
  • Consult authorized service assistance for doubts or issues.
  • Do not use with programmers, timers, or remote control systems that switch on automatically.
