Overview

The TK10, also known as "The Ultimate Home Trash Krusher," is a stainless steel trash compactor designed for residential kitchen use. Its primary function is to compact household waste, including food waste (when composting is not an option) and all recyclables except glass, thereby reducing the volume of trash and potentially saving on waste disposal costs.

Technical Specifications and Components:

The TK10 unit consists of several key components:

  • Compaction Device (CD): This is a manual trash compactor that snaps into the lid of the TK10. It is the core mechanism for compacting trash.
  • Lid with Stay-Open Lock: The lid features a plastic push lever on the interior side of the lid hinge, allowing the lid to be locked in an open position for convenience during use or bag changes.
  • Heavy-Duty Plastic Liner with Bag Locking Mechanism: This internal liner holds the trash bag. The bag locking mechanism is built into the back of the liner to secure the trash bag in place.
  • Fingerprint-Proof Stainless Steel Can: The outer shell of the TK10 is made of fingerprint-proof stainless steel, providing a durable and aesthetically pleasing exterior.
  • Foot-Pedal with Soft-Touch: A foot pedal allows for hands-free opening of the lid. The lid stays open as long as the pedal is pressed and closes when released.

Usage Features:

  • Opening and Closing: The lid can be opened by stepping on the foot pedal and closes upon release. For extended opening, the lid lock can be slid over to keep the lid open.
  • Trash Bag Compatibility: The TK10 is designed for use with quality 10 or 13-gallon trash bags.
  • Changing the Trash Bag: To change the bag, the lid is locked open, the plastic liner is removed, the filled bag is replaced, and a new bag is inserted and secured using the bag locking mechanism. The liner is then returned to the can, and the lid lock is released.
  • Krushing Trash: Compaction is recommended to begin when the trash can is approximately half full. The user holds the CD handle with their dominant hand, presses down slowly and firmly using their body weight to compact the trash. It is important to ensure skin and clothes do not come into contact with the can or its contents during this process. After compaction, the CD is returned to its starting position and snapped into place.
  • Securing Compaction Device: The CD can be secured into place using either a 2-hand or 1-hand method.
    • 2-Hand Method: Hold the CD handle with the dominant hand, place the non-dominant hand on the top front of the lid for resistance, and pull the CD until it snaps into place with a "click."
    • 1-Hand Method: Hold the CD handle with the four fingers of the dominant hand near the lid, place the thumb of the dominant hand on the top front of the lid for resistance, and pull the CD until it snaps into place with an audible "click."
  • Tips for Efficient Compaction:
    • Begin compacting when the trash can is half full and repeat until the bag is filled.
    • Open the bottom of cardboard boxes (e.g., cereal and cracker boxes) for easier compaction.
    • Discard plastic containers with lids off for easier compaction.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning:
    • The Compaction Device (CD) should be rinsed regularly in the kitchen sink and cleaned thoroughly with warm soapy water as needed. It is crucial not to submerge the CD in water or place it in a dishwasher.
    • Surfaces can be wiped with a soft damp sponge or lemon oil.
    • For deep cleaning, the stainless steel can and plastic liner can be cleaned outdoors using a soft sponge and soapy water, with a garden hose recommended for rinsing.
