Why is the air volume low in my Howden ENF?
    • J
      Jodi LeeJul 30, 2025
If the Howden Fan's air volume is low, several factors could be responsible. The system may be fouled, requiring cleaning of air-cooler bundles or cooling tower fill. Obstacles in the housing or air stream could be present; check the actual total area of obstacles and impeller housing inlet shape against the original selection. If the static pressure is higher than specified or the air temperature is higher than the design temperature, increase the blade angle, but only up to 3 degrees initially, and then perform a selection check. Also, verify that the blade angle hasn't decreased due to rotation of the blades; if so, reset the blade angle and torque the U-bolt nuts correctly.

What to do if the vibration level is high in Howden ENF Fan?
    • R
      Richard BradleyAug 3, 2025
A high vibration level in your Howden Fan can stem from several causes. The impeller may be imbalanced, so check the position of the fan blades according to the instructions. There might be a lack of stiffness in the support structure, requiring reinforcement. Ensure that the bolting of the drive-train connection or fan housing is tight. Incorrect drive alignment can also cause vibration, so realign it. Check for driver bearing damage and repair or replace if necessary. Make sure the drainage holes are open. If the blade is not flush against the lower clamping piece, release the U-bolts, pull the blade outwards, and re-tighten the U-bolts to the correct torque. Also, verify that the blade angles are within ±0.5° tolerance and reset them if needed.

How to reduce high power absorption in Howden ENF?
    • S
      sandra06Aug 8, 2025
If the power absorption is too high in your Howden Fan, it could be due to several reasons. The static pressure might be higher than specified, in which case you should decrease the blade angle. If the air temperature is lower than the design air temperature, check the performance against the current air temperature. High airflow or a blade angle that is too large can also increase power absorption; in these cases, decrease the blade angle or set the blade angle according to the fan selection details. Lastly, check the transmission for any issues.

What causes high power absorption in Howden ENF?
    • R
      Rachel BrownAug 11, 2025
If the power absorption is too high in your Howden Fan, one potential cause is fouling of the system. To resolve this, clean the system's air-cooler bundles or cooling tower fill. Another cause could be obstacles in the housing or air stream. Check the actual total area of obstacles and the impeller housing inlet shape against the original selection.

What to do if Howden ENF impeller is rubbing?
    • M
      Matthew AndersonAug 15, 2025
If the impeller is rubbing against the fan casing in your Howden Fan, several issues could be the cause. First, check if the bolting of the drive-train connection, support structure, or fan housing is not tight and tighten all bolts. The impeller may not be centered, so center the impeller. If the tip clearance is too small, decrease the impeller diameter by placing nylon rings between the lower clamping pieces and blade stem collars. Lastly, if the fan casing is too weak, stiffen the fan casing.

Are hairline cracks on Howden Fan blades dangerous?
    • C
      Courtney WalkerAug 20, 2025
Hairline cracks on the blade surface of your Howden Fan are generally harmless, as they typically appear in resin-rich areas around the edges and stop progressing. However, it is advised to fill these cracks with a touch-up material, such as Sikaflex 252, to prevent moisture penetration affecting the blades. Contact Howden for a repair kit.
