Overview

The Hozelock Pulsating Sprinkler (2550) is a versatile watering device designed to efficiently irrigate lawns and garden beds. This sprinkler is engineered for ease of use and offers adjustable settings to suit various watering needs, from wide-area coverage to targeted watering of specific sections.

Function Description

The primary function of the Hozelock Pulsating Sprinkler is to distribute water over a designated area. It achieves this through a pulsating action that projects water in a controlled stream or spray. The sprinkler can be set to water in a continuous 360° circle or a partial arc, making it adaptable for different garden layouts. Its design allows for effective watering of both large lawns and smaller, more intricate garden areas, including flowerbeds. The device is powered by water pressure from a connected hose, eliminating the need for external power sources.

Usage Features

Setup and Placement: To begin using the sprinkler, it must be firmly pushed into the ground using its metal spike. For optimal watering, it should be placed either in the center of the area to be watered (for 360° coverage) or in the middle of one side (for arc watering). The manual emphasizes pushing the sprinkler down with two hands, holding the bottom parts, to avoid damaging the top of the sprinkler. The ideal placement for this product is in a lawn or the soil of a garden bed, ensuring stability and effective water distribution. Once securely in place, a hose connector is attached to the sprinkler, and the water supply is turned on to activate the spraying action.

Sprinkler Controls: The Hozelock Pulsating Sprinkler features several adjustable controls that allow users to customize the watering pattern and intensity:

  1. Diffuser Screw: This small red screw is crucial for adjusting the water stream.

    • Turning it anti-clockwise until it is completely out of the stream will result in a single, powerful jet of water, providing maximum distance. This is ideal for covering large, open areas.
    • Turning it clockwise until it is in the stream of water will break up the jet, producing a wide, dispersed flow of water with a shorter distance. This setting is suitable for more delicate plants or areas requiring a gentler spray.
  2. Deflector Dial: Located on the top of the sprinkler, this red dial controls the angle of the yellow deflector, which influences the water's trajectory. The dial is marked with jet and fan symbols.

    • Turning the dial towards the "jet" symbol allows the water to travel the full distance uninterrupted, making it perfect for watering large lawns where maximum reach is desired.
    • Turning the dial towards the "fan" symbol deflects the water downwards and outwards. This setting is particularly useful for watering nearby flowerbeds, ensuring that water is directed precisely where needed without overshooting.
  3. Arc Adjusters & Trip Lever: These components work in conjunction to define the spray head's motion and the area it covers.

    • Continuous 360° Circle: To achieve full circular watering, the metal trip lever should be flipped upwards, away from the two red arc adjustment rings. This allows the spray head to rotate freely and continuously without stopping, providing comprehensive coverage for circular lawns or central garden areas.
    • Partial Arc Watering: For watering only a portion of a circle (e.g., a semi-circle), the metal trip lever should be flipped downwards, into the red ring area. The two red arc adjustment rings can then be slid left or right independently to set the desired arc area. This feature is highly beneficial for watering specific sections of a garden, along fences, or in corners, preventing water waste on paved areas or neighboring properties.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides troubleshooting tips that indirectly relate to maintaining optimal performance:

No Water Coming Out: If no water is being dispensed, users are advised to check that the tap is fully on and that water is flowing through the hose. This can be verified by disconnecting the sprinkler and attaching another watering accessory, such as a spray gun, to the hose. This helps to isolate whether the issue lies with the water supply, the hose, or the sprinkler itself.

Does Not Rotate / Does Not Rotate Reliably: Several factors can affect the sprinkler's rotation:

  • Proper Ground Insertion: It is crucial to ensure the sprinkler is pushed all the way into the ground, with the hose connector just above the surface. If the sprinkler is too high, it may vibrate excessively, which can impede its rotation. Correct insertion ensures stability and smooth operation.
  • Water Pressure: The sprinkler requires good water pressure to function correctly and rotate reliably. Users are recommended to use the shortest possible length of hose from the tap to the sprinkler to minimize pressure loss. Additionally, ensuring the tap is turned all the way on and that the water flow is not restricted by any valves or Y connectors is vital for maintaining adequate pressure.

These troubleshooting steps help users identify and resolve common operational issues, ensuring the sprinkler continues to perform effectively. For persistent problems, the manual directs users to contact customer service, indicating that the device is designed for user-level troubleshooting before requiring professional assistance.
