The Hozelock 20 Pot Watering Kit (model 2803) is a comprehensive irrigation system designed to automatically water up to 20 pots, saving time, water, and effort. This kit provides extensive control over watering duration, frequency, and start time, making it suitable for various garden watering needs.
Components:
The kit includes the following components:
- AC1 Timer (x1): This is the central control unit for the system. It allows users to program watering schedules, including duration, frequency, and start time. It requires 2 x C type (LR14) alkaline batteries, which are not included.
- Pressure Reducer (x1): This component reduces the water pressure from the mains tap to an optimal level for the system, ensuring efficient performance and preventing damage. It also features an integrated filter to prevent dirty water from affecting dripper performance.
- 10m (ø4mm) Micro Tube (x1): A flexible 4mm tube used to transport water throughout the system. It can be cut and adapted to create a customized watering layout for delivering water to plants via a network of drippers. The manufacturer recommends that no single length of Micro Tube should exceed 15m.
- T-Connector (x19): These connectors allow users to customize the water flow by splitting the micro tube, altering, and extending the layout of the watering system.
- Straight Connector (x5): Used to join lengths of micro tube, enabling users to adjust and extend the system layout.
- Wall Clip (x5): These clips are used to secure the micro tube in place, helping to maintain an organized and tidy watering system.
- Dripper with Stake (x20): Each dripper features a compact design with an integrated spike for easy and discreet placement in pots or borders. Each dripper delivers water at a rate of 4 litres per hour.
Installation:
The system can be connected to an outdoor tap using one of two methods:
- Fit the AC1 Timer directly to the outdoor tap, then screw the Pressure Reducer onto the timer.
- Alternatively, screw the Pressure Reducer directly onto the outdoor tap.
Once the control unit is connected, the Pressure Reducer is connected to the Micro Tube using a 4mm adaptor. The Micro Tube is then routed to the desired watering locations. T-Connectors and Straight Connectors are used to customize the layout, and Wall Clips secure the tubing. Drippers with Stakes are fitted onto the end of the Micro Tube at each plant location.
Usage Features:
- Automatic Control: The AC1 Timer provides automatic control over watering, allowing users to set specific watering durations, frequencies, and start times. This eliminates the need for manual watering and ensures plants receive consistent hydration.
- Customizable Layout: The flexible 4mm Micro Tube, along with T-Connectors and Straight Connectors, allows for a highly customizable watering system layout to suit various garden designs and pot arrangements.
- Efficient Water Delivery: The Pressure Reducer ensures optimal water pressure, and the drippers deliver water directly to the plant roots at a controlled rate of 4 litres per hour, minimizing water waste.
- Scalability: For larger systems, the capacity calculation guide helps users determine the maximum number of drippers supported by their water supply. If more drippers are needed, the system can be separated into sections, each potentially requiring its own water computer (timer) to run at different times.
Technical Specifications:
- Micro Tube Diameter: 4mm
- Dripper Flow Rate: 4 litres per hour per dripper
- Timer Power: 2 x C type (LR14) alkaline batteries (not included)
- Maximum Micro Tube Length (single run): 15m
Calculating System Capacity:
To determine the maximum number of drippers a system can support, follow these steps:
- With the pressure regulator installed and the tap fully on, measure the time in seconds it takes to fill a bucket of known volume in litres.
- Calculate the maximum flow rate in litres per hour: (Litres in bucket x 3600) / Seconds to fill.
- The total water requirement of all drippers (number of drippers x 4 litres/hour) should not exceed the maximum flow rate calculated.
Maintenance Features:
- End-of-Season Preparation: At the end of the growing season, all flow control valves should be opened, and end sleeves removed. The system should be flushed with water to clean it and then drained to prevent frost damage.
- Storage: The pressure regulator and water computer should be removed and stored away from frost.
- Dripper Cleaning: Drippers can be dismantled for cleaning. Soaking them in an equal mixture of vinegar and water helps remove any residues, ensuring continued optimal performance.
- Leakage Management: Occasional slight leakage may occur from connection points initially. This usually seals over time, but it's important to ensure fittings are correctly inserted at a 90° angle.
Warranty:
The product comes with a 1-year guarantee.
