112 Security Features EN
Table 6.1 Summary of HP Jetdirect Security Features (1 of 2)
IP Administrative Password
Used by Telnet and the Embedded Web Server to control access to
HP Jetdirect configuration parameters.
Up to 16 alphanumeric characters may be used.
Configured on the HP Jetdirect print server using TFTP (Chapter 3
), Telnet
(Chapter 3
), or Embedded Web Server (Appendix B) services. Up to 16
alphanumeric characters are allowed.
IP Host Access List
Specifies up to 10 host systems, or networks of host systems, that are allowed
access to the HP Jetdirect print server and the attached network device.
Access is generally limited to host systems specified in the list.
Host systems that use HTTP (for example, using the Embedded Web Server
or IPP) are not checked against entries in the Access List and are allowed
access.
If the list is empty, then all hosts are allowed access.
Configured on the HP Jetdirect print server using TFTP (Chapter 3
), Telnet
(Chapter 3
), Embedded Web Server (Appendix B), or management software.
Network Protocol Control
Protocols on HP Jetdirect print servers can be enabled or disabled. By disabling
unused network protocols, unauthorized access through applications that use
these protocols can be prevented.
SNMP Set Community Name (IP/IPX)
A password on the HP Jetdirect print server that allows incoming SNMP Set
commands (for example, from management software) to write (or set)
HP Jetdirect configuration parameters.
The factory-default Set Community Name is public or internal. For a
user-assigned Set Community Name, SNMP Set commands must contain the
user-assigned name, which is authenticated by the print server before the
command is performed.
Authentication of SNMP Set commands are further restricted to systems
identified on the host access list.
For multiport Jetdirect print servers, the port intended for SNMP Set commands
can be specified by a digit after the community name (separators . and : are
accepted). For example, if the HP Jetdirect print server supports at least two
ports, the following names would be used with port 2: password2, password.2,
password:2. Names with no digit, or outside the range of ports, will default to
port 1. For example, for an HP Jetdirect print server with two ports, the following
names will default to port 1: password, password1, password8.
Configured on the HP Jetdirect print server using TFTP (Chapter 3
), Telnet
(Chapter 3
), Embedded Web Server (Appendix B), or Management application
services.
