14 Reliability
Evaluating reliability
At HP, we typically test multiple devices in various environmental conditions to evaluate engine reliability.
We run the devices to engine life and record the supplies’ life, jam rate, and misfeed rate, continually
improving each new generation of HP products.
This kind of extensive, long-term testing is beyond the limits of most companies’ resources; however, it is
possible to estimate their printer’s engine reliability. One option is to compare other manufacturers’ lifetime
duty-cycle ratings, base warranty (make sure it is at least one-year), and three-year warranty costs. When
comparing the HP Color LaserJet CP1215 Printer with printers from other manufacturers, consider the
following:
Will the printer print legacy print jobs correctly?
Will the printer perform consistently under various environmental conditions?
After a few thousand pages, is the print quality the same as it was out of the box?
How easy is it to maintain and calibrate the printer?
What is the quality of customer support?
Does the print cartridge feature an all-in-one design, or will require maintenance and part replacements?
