To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure.
Drive
To remove the component:
CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless
all bays are populated with either a component or a blank.
1. Determine the status of the drive from the hot-plug SAS drive LED combinations ("SAS and SATA drive
LED combinations" on page 85).
2. Back up all server data on the drive.
3. Remove the drive.
To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure.
Drive cage and backplane
To remove the component:
1. Power down the server (on page 29).
2. Do one of the following:
o Open or remove the tower bezel, as needed ("Front bezel" on page 30).
o Extend the server from the rack (on page 29).
3. Remove the access panel ("Access panel" on page 31).
4. Remove the rack bezel (rack servers only) ("Rack bezel" on page 31).
5. Remove all drives ("Drive" on page 37) and drive blanks ("Drive blank" on page 36).
6. Disconnect the 10-pin power cable from the drive cage backplane.
