Overview

The CU2/CU2RC LED Emergency Light is a life safety product designed to provide illumination during electrical power failures, ensuring safety and visibility in emergency situations. This manual outlines the installation, wiring, operation, and maintenance procedures for the device.

Function Description:

The primary function of the CU2/CU2RC LED Emergency Light is to automatically activate its lamps when the normal electrical power supply is interrupted. This ensures that a minimum level of illumination is maintained for at least 90 minutes, allowing occupants to safely exit a building or navigate during a power outage. The device is equipped with LED lamps, which are known for their energy efficiency and long lifespan.

Important Technical Specifications:

The CU2/CU2RC series offers two main models: CU2 and CU2RC, each with specific battery capacities and wiring configurations.

CU2 Model:

  • Input Voltage: Supports both 277 VAC and 120 VAC.
  • Battery: 3.6V/900mAh.
  • Wiring: Features a charger board, ready indicator, and test button. It includes connections for red (277V), black (120V), and white (neutral) input leads. The unit also has connections for two lamps. Unused leads must be properly insulated with a wire nut or other approved method.

CU2RC Model:

  • Input Voltage: Supports both 277 VAC and 120 VAC.
  • Battery: 3.6V/1800mAh. This higher capacity battery provides extended runtime or supports additional remote lamps.
  • Wiring: Similar to the CU2 model, it includes a charger board and test button. It has connections for red (277V), black (120V), and white (neutral) input leads. The unit supports connections for two local lamps and an additional remote lamp, indicated by a separate "REMOTE" connection. Unused leads must be properly insulated with a wire nut or other approved method.

General Specifications (Applicable to both models):

  • Lamp Type: LED (Light Emitting Diode).
  • Emergency Runtime: A minimum of 90 minutes during an electrical power failure.
  • Recycling Information: All steel, aluminum, and thermoplastic parts are recyclable. All cartons contain recycled materials, emphasizing environmental responsibility.
  • Compliance: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, and/or other reproductive harm. Users are advised to thoroughly wash hands after installing, handling, cleaning, or otherwise touching the product.
  • Manufacturer: Hubbell Lighting, Inc. Life Safety Products.

Usage Features:

Installation:

The CU2/CU2RC can be installed using two primary methods: J-Box Mounting or Conduit Mounting.

J-Box Mounting:

  1. Power Connection: Feed fixture leads through the main bottom case and connect them to the AC power supply.
  2. J-Box Securement: Connect wires through the J-Box. Secure the main bottom case onto the J-Box with screws.
  3. Battery Connection: Connect the battery ONLY after continuous AC power has been provided to the unit. This ensures the unit is properly powered before the battery is engaged.
  4. Housing Attachment: Align the snaps and push the housing directly onto the main bottom case.
  5. Testing: Apply continuous AC power and press the "TEST" button to verify the light's functionality.

Conduit Mounting:

  1. Surface Securement: Secure the main bottom case to the wall surface.
  2. Conduit Connection: Route wires through the hole in the conduit flange and make the conduit connection.
  3. Battery Connection: Connect the battery ONLY after continuous AC power has been provided to the unit.
  4. Housing Attachment: Align the snaps and push the housing directly onto the main bottom case.
  5. Testing: Apply continuous AC power and press the "TEST" button to verify the light's functionality.

Warning during Installation: Unused wires must be capped using enclosed wire nuts to prevent electrical hazards.

Operation:

  1. Automatic Activation: During an electrical power failure, the emergency lamps will automatically illuminate for a minimum duration of 90 minutes.
  2. Manual Testing: To test the emergency lamps, depress the "TEST" switch. The lamps will illuminate as long as the switch is held down. Releasing the switch will turn the lamps off.
