The HULKMAN Sigma 1 Battery Charger is a versatile and intelligent device designed for charging and maintaining various types of 6V and 12V batteries. It offers a range of features for efficient and safe battery management, including multiple charging modes, error indications, and recovery functions.
The Sigma 1 charger is primarily used to charge and maintain 6V and 12V lead-acid batteries (Wet Cell, Gel Cell, Enhanced Flooded, Maintenance-Free, Calcium, and AGM) and 12V Lithium batteries. It provides a user-friendly interface with a display screen and two buttons (Menu and Confirm) for easy operation. The device guides users through the charging process with clear step-by-step instructions, from connecting to the battery and plugging into an outlet to selecting the appropriate charge mode and initiating charging.
One of its key features is the "12V Repair" mode, an intelligent battery recovery function designed to repair and restore sulfated, old, idle, damaged, or stratified 12-volt batteries. This mode can take up to four hours to complete and is effective for 12-volt lead-acid batteries with a voltage higher than 2V. It's important to note that not all batteries can be recovered, and the effectiveness of the repair depends on the degree of damage.
Another notable feature is the "12V Loading" (Force mode), which is activated when a connected battery's voltage is between 0.3V and 2V, and a 12V, 12V AGM, or 12V Lithium mode is selected. This mode allows for a 5-minute force charge to initiate charging on deeply discharged batteries.
The charger also incorporates several safety and error indication features. It displays icons for various issues such as high/low internal or ambient temperature, battery voltage too high for the selected mode, reverse polarity, and a "bad battery" indication. Each error comes with a corresponding solution, ensuring safe and effective troubleshooting.
The Sigma 1 offers seven distinct charging modes, accessible via the Menu button:
The display screen provides crucial information, including battery voltage and battery level/repair time. The battery level is indicated by four bars, representing 25% to 100% charge. In 12V Repair mode, these bars indicate repair time from 1h to 4h. Flashing bars become constant once a stage is completed.
The charging times vary depending on battery size (Amp-Hours) and the state of charge (empty to 80% or 50% DOD to full charge). For example, a 4Ah battery takes approximately 4 hours to reach 80% charge in 6V or 12V mode, and 3 hours to reach full charge from 50% DOD. A 32Ah battery takes 32 hours to reach 80% charge and 18 hours to reach full charge from 50% DOD.
The HULKMAN Sigma 1 is designed for durability with an IP60 ingress protection rating, making it dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets. This robust design contributes to its longevity and reliability.
The device includes a 3-year hassle-free warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal use, starting from the date of purchase. To maintain warranty validity, the product must be handled as described in the manual.
Error indications serve as a maintenance feature, guiding users to identify and resolve issues promptly. For instance, if the charger's internal or ambient temperature is too high or low, it will automatically resume function once the temperature returns to the optimal range (-4°F to 104°F). If the battery voltage is too high for the selected mode, users are prompted to check the battery and confirm the appropriate charge mode. Reverse polarity issues are addressed by reversing the battery clamps/eyelets. In cases of a "bad battery" (one that will not hold a charge), the user is advised to get the battery checked by a professional, preventing further damage or wasted charging attempts.
