Overview

The Huma-i Skyblue (HI-120) is a portable air quality monitor designed to provide real-time measurements of various air pollutants. Its primary function is to measure Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), PM2.5 (fine dust), and PM10 (ultra-fine dust) with high accuracy, allowing users to monitor the air quality around them anytime and anywhere.

Function Description:

The device is equipped with a VOC sensor to measure volatile organic compounds in real time. VOCs are a group of carcinogens that can cause nervous system trouble through skin contact or inhalation. This group includes substances like benzene, formaldehyde, toluene, xylene, ethylene, and acetaldehyde. By monitoring VOC levels, the Huma-i Skyblue helps users identify potential health risks in their environment.

In addition to VOCs, the Huma-i Skyblue features an in-house designed built-in fine dust sensor module. This module enables the device to accurately measure both PM2.5 and PM10. PM2.5 refers to fine inhalable particles with diameters generally 2.5 micrometers and smaller, while PM10 refers to inhalable particles with diameters generally 10 micrometers and smaller. Both types of particulate matter can pose significant health risks when present in high concentrations.

The device offers several display modes to present air quality information in an easy-to-understand format:

  1. Integrated Display Mode: This mode provides a comprehensive overview of air quality by displaying VOC, PM2.5, and PM10 levels simultaneously on one screen. The information is presented in a step-by-step graph with four steps indicating air quality levels: Good, Moderate, Poor, and Unhealthy. This visual representation simplifies the interpretation of complex air quality data.

  2. WHO Mode (Icon Mode): For quick and easy recognition of air quality, this mode uses four distinct icons to represent the good and poor states of fine dust. In this mode, the device automatically displays the worst air quality reading between PM2.5 and PM10. The icons are color-coded:

    • Blue icon signifies "Good" air quality.
    • Green icon signifies "Moderate" air quality.
    • Yellow icon signifies "Poor" air quality.
    • Red icon signifies "Unhealthy" air quality. This mode is particularly useful for users who need a rapid assessment of air quality without delving into specific numerical values.
  3. PM (Particulate Matter) Display Mode: This mode focuses specifically on particulate matter, simultaneously displaying PM2.5 and PM10 measurement values. This allows users to monitor the levels of fine and ultra-fine dust independently.

  4. VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) Display Mode: In this mode, the VOC concentration is displayed along with its PPM (parts per million) unit figures. It's important to note that when the device is powered on, the VOC value is displayed after an initial warm-up period of 15 to 60 seconds, after which the value updates every second.

The device also features a battery status display, which is indicated by an icon showing the remaining battery life.

Usage Features:

The Huma-i Skyblue is designed for ease of use with a single "Power and mode selection button."

  • Power Button Functionality: Pressing the button for 1 second powers on the device. To conserve battery life, the device automatically switches to a power-off state if it remains unused for 10 minutes. A helpful feature is the status LED, which blinks 1 minute before the automatic power-off, giving the user a warning. If the button is pressed lightly during this blinking period, the device will remain on for another 10 minutes, and the display mode will not change.

  • Mode Selection Button Functionality: This same button also serves as the mode selector. Each time the button is pressed, the display mode cycles through the following order: Integrated Display Mode (PM2.5 / PM10 / VOC) → WHO Mode → PM Mode (PM2.5 / PM10) → VOC Mode. This cyclical selection allows users to easily switch between different views of air quality data based on their immediate needs.

  • Status Light: The device incorporates a status LED light that provides a quick visual indication of the VOC and fine dust/ultra-fine dust status. The color of this LED corresponds to the air quality levels:

    • Blue indicates "Good" air quality.
    • Green indicates "Moderate" air quality.
    • Yellow indicates "Poor" air quality.
    • Red indicates "Unhealthy" air quality. This provides an immediate, at-a-glance assessment of the surrounding air quality without needing to read the display.

The device is portable, making it convenient for users to carry it and monitor air quality in various indoor and outdoor environments. Its compact size and lightweight design contribute to its portability.

Maintenance Features:

While the manual primarily focuses on usage, it also outlines important considerations for maintaining the device's functionality and longevity:

  • Continuous Use and OLED Display: The device utilizes an OLED display for good visibility. However, continuous operation is not recommended as it may lead to a "burn-in" phenomenon on the screen. Users are advised to avoid continuous use unless absolutely necessary to preserve the display's quality.

  • Environmental Exposure: To prevent malfunction and changes in appearance, the device should not be exposed to direct sunlight, high temperatures, or high humidity. These environmental factors can negatively impact the device's internal components and external casing.

  • Fine Dust Environment: Prolonged use in environments with high concentrations of fine dust is discouraged. While the device measures fine dust, operating it continuously in such conditions may affect the smoothness of measurements and potentially impact the sensor's performance over time.

  • Disassembly Restrictions: Users are explicitly warned against disassembling the product unless they are an authorized engineer or technician. Unauthorized disassembly voids the warranty, emphasizing the importance of professional service for any internal issues.

  • Liquid Contact: To prevent malfunction, electric shock, or fire, liquids such as drinks or water should not be allowed to enter the product. This highlights the device's sensitivity to moisture and the potential hazards associated with it.

  • Environmental Factors Affecting Accuracy: The manual acknowledges that the product's measurements may be subject to errors depending on environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and wind, as well as usage patterns. This suggests that while the device is accurate, external conditions can influence readings, and users should be aware of these potential variations.

  • Intended Use of Measurements: The measured values provided by the Huma-i Skyblue are intended for personal use only. The manufacturer and seller are not responsible for the accuracy or implications of these values beyond personal monitoring, underscoring that the device is a consumer-grade air quality monitor and not a professional scientific instrument for regulatory purposes.

The Huma-i Skyblue (HI-120) is designed to be a user-friendly and portable tool for personal air quality awareness, offering multiple ways to interpret and understand the air around you.
