Overview

The Menopod® is a mechanical cooling device designed to provide non-hormonal relief during menopausal hot flashes. It is intended for use at the onset of a hot flash and works by rapidly cooling a copper plate, which is then applied to the back of the neck.

Function Description

The core function of the Menopod® is to deliver rapid cooling. When activated, the copper plate on the device cools down to 5°C (41°F) within four seconds and maintains this temperature for one minute. This cooling process is designed to counteract the sensation of a hot flash. Internally, the device generates heat during operation, which necessitates a cooling-off period to prevent overheating. After a few rapid successive uses, the Menopod® will automatically shut down and will not turn on again until it has sufficiently cooled, typically requiring a ten-minute wait. The device is designed to operate within ambient temperatures ranging from 0°C (60°F) to 35°C (90°F). Operating in higher temperatures may reduce the number of cycles the device can perform before overheating.

Usage Features

To begin using the Menopod®, it is crucial to ensure the battery is fully charged. The device comes with a Micro-B USB charging cable and a USB power adapter for this purpose. When charging, all four LED indicator lights on the device will illuminate solid green once fully charged. The LED indicators provide visual feedback on the device's status, both during use and charging.

  • Battery Status Indicators:
    • Solid green lights (all four): Battery is fully charged (when turned on or charging).
    • Blinking green lights (all four): Battery is almost fully charged (when charging).
    • Solid green lights (three): At least three-quarters of the battery remaining (when turned on).
    • Blinking green lights (three): Battery charged to at least 75% (when charging).
    • Solid green lights (two): At least half of the battery remaining (when turned on).
    • Blinking green lights (two): Battery charged to at least 50% (when charging).
    • Solid green light (one): Battery is nearly depleted (when turned on).
    • Blinking green light (one): 1%-25% of battery remaining (when charging).
    • Blinking amber lights (all four, when connected to charging cable): Indicates an over-discharged battery, requiring continued charging until power is restored.
    • Blinking red lights (all four, when operating): Indicates the device is overheated and requires up to ten minutes to cool down before further use.
    • No lights when the switch is slid sideways: Battery is depleted and the unit needs to be recharged.
    • No lights when charging: Indicates a power issue, requiring troubleshooting of the charging setup.

Operating the Device:

  1. Disconnect from Charging: If the Menopod® is currently charging, it must be disconnected from the charging cable before use.
  2. Power On: Slide the power button to the left to turn the device on.
  3. Rapid Cooling: The Menopod® will cool to 5°C (41°F) within four seconds.
  4. Application: Place the cooled copper plate on the back of your neck for instant cooling relief.
  5. Movement: For optimal relief, slide the Menopod® from side to side on the back of your neck every ten seconds.
  6. Cycle Duration: Each cooling cycle lasts for one minute, after which the Menopod® will automatically turn off.
  7. Subsequent Use: The device can be run for another cycle immediately if needed, but users should be aware of the overheating limitation. After a few rapid successive cycles, the device will require a ten-minute cooling period. The Menopod® can be recharged at any time, even between uses.

Maintenance Features

Proper handling and maintenance are essential for the longevity and safe operation of the Menopod®.

  • Cleaning: The Menopod® should be cleaned immediately if it comes into contact with substances that may cause stains, such as dirt, ink, makeup, or lotions.

    • Cleaning Procedure:
      • Disconnect all cables from the device.
      • Avoid getting moisture into any openings.
      • Do not use cleaning products or compressed air.
      • Wipe the Menopod® with a soft, lint-free cloth.
      • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to polish the copper plate to keep it clean and shiny, and to remove any sweat and oil that may transfer from the skin. This also helps protect the copper plate from oxidization.
  • Charging Cable Care: Discoloration of the charging plug after use is normal due to dirt, debris, and exposure to liquids. If the cable becomes warm during use or fails to charge the Menopod®, disconnect it from the computer or USB Power Adapter and clean it with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquids or cleaning products when cleaning the charging connector.

  • Storage and Environmental Considerations:

    • Avoid leaving the Menopod® in extreme temperatures, such as in a hot or cold car, as this can damage the device. The copper plate can become very hot if left in direct heat.
    • The device should not be submerged in water. If water splashes onto the unit, dry it off immediately. If submerged, the device should not be used.
    • Store and operate the Menopod® within the recommended temperature ranges: 0°C (60°F) to 35°C (90°F) for operation, and -20°C (0°F) to 45°C (95°F) for storage. Storing or operating outside these ranges can damage the device and shorten battery life.
    • Avoid exposing the Menopod® to dramatic changes in temperature or humidity.
    • It is normal for the Menopod® to get warm during use or charging. If the internal temperature exceeds normal operating temperatures (e.g., in a hot car or direct sunlight), the device may stop functioning, stop charging, or its indicator LEDs may light up red as it attempts to regulate its temperature.
  • General Handling:

    • Handle the Menopod® with care, as it contains sensitive electronic components. It can be damaged if dropped, burned, punctured, crushed, or if it comes into contact with liquid. Do not use a damaged Menopod®, especially one with a cracked case, as it may cause injury.
    • When connecting cables or using buttons, never force a connector into a port or apply excessive pressure to a button, as this can cause damage not covered under warranty. Ensure connectors and ports match and are free of obstructions.
  • Battery Replacement: The Lithium Iron Phosphate battery in the Menopod® should only be replaced by Humantec Inc. Attempting to replace the battery yourself can damage it, potentially leading to overheating and injury. The battery must be recycled or disposed of separately from household waste and should not be incinerated.

  • Repair: Do not attempt to open or repair the Menopod® yourself, as this can cause damage or injury. If the device is damaged, malfunctioning, or comes into contact with liquid, contact customer service.
