Do you have a question about the HUNICOM HB-200 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The device described in this manual is the HUNCOM HB-200, a PMR446 walkie-talkie. It is designed for personal mobile radio use, offering a range of basic and advanced functions for communication.

Function Description

The HB-200 is a two-way radio primarily used for short-range communication. Its core function is to transmit and receive voice messages. It operates on the PMR446 frequency band, which is license-free in many European countries.

Basic Operations:

  • Power On/Off: The device is turned on or off by pressing and holding the power button for approximately 2 seconds.
  • Volume Adjustment: The volume can be adjusted using the Up/Down keys, with 8 available volume levels.
  • Transmission: To transmit, the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button is pressed and held while speaking into the microphone. Releasing the PTT button allows the device to receive.
  • Channel Selection: The device features 16 channels. Channels can be selected by pressing the Menu button for 2 seconds until the current channel number blinks. The Up/Down keys are then used to select a channel, and pressing the Menu button again confirms the selection.
  • Key Lock: The Key Lock function prevents accidental button presses. It is activated by pressing the Key Lock button (F) for about 2 seconds. To unlock, the button is pressed again for 2 seconds.

Advanced Operations: The HB-200 offers several advanced features accessible through the Menu button:

  • CTCSS/DCS (Tone): This function allows for selective calling, acting as a selective call system or receive filter. It uses 52 analog CTCSS sub-codes and 208 digital DCS codes to filter out unwanted transmissions. This ensures that only radios with the same coding can communicate, reducing interference. The device supports both analog and digital codes.
  • Key Tones (BP): When activated, the radio emits a "Beep" confirmation tone whenever a button is pressed.
  • DTMF (DT): DTMF tones are combinations of short tones that can be preambled to messages upon every press of the PTT button. This allows for selective calling where only parties with the initial message might receive the audio, while others remain open to receive. This feature can be activated or de-activated.
  • Roger Beep (RG): A short tone is automatically added to the end of transmissions when this feature is activated, signaling to other users that the transmission has ended.
  • Compander (CP): When activated, the compander function reduces background noise and generates clear sound by cutting off high and low frequencies. This feature is recommended for users who prefer an unmodified sound, and it may not be compatible with other radio models.
  • Scrambler (SR): This feature incorporates a voice scrambler using a band inversion method, changing the audio so that users without a scrambler cannot understand the communication. It is compatible with some scramblers used by other manufacturers and can be activated or deactivated.
  • Call Tone (CL): This function allows users to send a Call Tone alert melody by pressing the PTT button twice in quick succession. There are three different call alert tones available.
  • Squelch (SQ): The squelch function adjusts the radio's squelch level to suppress background noise when no signal is present. There are 3 different squelch levels available: Level 1 is the most sensitive (open), and Level 3 is the least sensitive (closed).
  • Scan (SC): The scan function allows the device to continuously monitor several frequencies. It stops scanning at a frequency when a signal is detected and continues scanning if no signal is received for 5 seconds.
  • Dual Watch (DW): This mode allows monitoring of two channels simultaneously: a primary channel and a dual watch channel. When a signal is received on either channel, the unit will pause for 5 seconds before resuming the dual watch. Users can select the channel number to monitor as the second channel in Dual Watch mode.
  • VOX (VX): When Hands-Free (VOX) mode is selected, the radio automatically transmits when the microphone detects voice (or other noises). It can be used with the internal microphone or a suitable audio accessory (available separately). To avoid accidental operation and reduce background noise, there are 2 microphone sensitivity settings (High/Low) available.
  • Squelch Tail (ST): This feature eliminates the white noise at the end of transmissions. It is required to match the ST number between the receiving radio and the transmitting radio. It has been set to ST 56 as a default.
