Overview

This document describes the Hurricane petrol lawn mower, available in models HBD-41 (DYM1651PF) and HBD-46R (DYM1666). It serves as an original operating instruction manual, covering assembly, operation, maintenance, and safety guidelines.

Function Description

The Hurricane petrol lawn mower is designed for private use in home and gardening environments. Its primary function is to cut grass on small-scale, residential lawns and hobby gardens. The HBD-46R model also features a rear-wheel drive for easier operation. The equipment is not intended for commercial, trade, or industrial applications, nor for trimming bushes, hedges, shrubs, cutting scaling vegetation, planted roofs, balcony-grown grass, cleaning dirt/debris from walkways, or chopping tree/hedge clippings. It should not be used as a power cultivator or as a drive unit for other work tools.

Important Technical Specifications

The two models, HBD-41 (DYM1651PF) and HBD-46R (DYM1666), share several characteristics but differ in key areas:

  • Lubrication System: Both use forced splash.
  • Ignition System: Both use TCI.
  • PTO Shaft Rotation: Both are counter-clockwise.
  • Spark Plug Gap: Both require 0.7-0.8 mm.
  • Rated Speed: HBD-41: 3000 min⁻¹; HBD-46R: 2800 min⁻¹.
  • Valve Clearance (cold): HBD-41: 0.1-0.15 mm; HBD-46R: 0.12-0.15 mm.
  • Fuel Tank Capacity: HBD-41: 0.8 l; HBD-46R: 1.4 l.
  • Motor Oil Quantity Needed: HBD-41: 0.4 l; HBD-46R: 0.5 l.

Usage Features

  • Safety First: Users are strongly advised to read the manual thoroughly before operation. Safety symbols on the product indicate important warnings such as "Keep hands and feet away," "Flammable fuel," "Toxic fumes," "Wear glasses and ear plugs," and "Engine hot." The machine is equipped with an engine brake that must be pulled back before starting.
  • Fuel and Oil: The engine is delivered without oil and must be filled with SAE30 or SAE 10W-30 oil (API.SG, SH, or SJ classification) before first use. Unleaded gasoline with a pump octane rating of 86 or higher is required. Never use an oil/gasoline mixture.
  • Starting Procedure:
    • HBD-41 (DYM1651PF): Ensure the spark plug is securely fastened. For a cold start, press the primer bulb 3-5 times. Hold the brake control handle against the upper handle. Pull the starter handle slowly until resistance is felt, then pull with a fast movement.
    • HBD-46R (DYM1666): Ensure the spark plug is securely fastened. For a cold start, turn the choke lever to the "M" position, then to "||" immediately after the engine starts. Hold the brake control handle against the upper handle. Pull the starter handle as described for HBD-41.
  • Stopping the Engine: Release the brake control handle to stop both the engine and blade.
  • Rear-Wheel Drive (HBD-46R only): Grip the self-drive control handle for automatic forward movement at approximately 3.0 km/h. Releasing the handle stops movement.
  • Height of Cut Adjustment: Both models feature a central height adjustment lever. The HBD-41 offers 7 positions (25-75 mm), while the HBD-46R offers 10 positions (25-75 mm). To adjust, squeeze the lever towards the wheel and move it along the scale.
  • Grass Catcher: Equipped with a filling indicator (textile cloth on the upside). When the indicator stops moving, the grass catcher is full and needs to be emptied and cleaned.
  • Mowing Tips: Clear the lawn of foreign objects before mowing. Do not cut wet grass. Cut no more than 1/3 of the grass length at a time. For long grass, mow in two stages. Operate at full throttle for the best cut.

Maintenance Features

  • General Maintenance: Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight. Ensure adequate ventilation when operating or servicing the engine. Allow the engine to cool before storage. Clean and maintain the lawnmower regularly.
  • Engine Oil: Check the oil level every time before starting. The oil should be refilled to the upper limit mark on the dipstick. The oil must be exchanged once a year, or every 25 hours under heavy load or high ambient temperatures.
  • Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug regularly. Replace it every 100 hours of use or if damaged/corroded. Measure and adjust the electrode gap as needed (0.7-0.8 mm). Disconnect the spark plug wire before servicing.
  • Air Filter: The foam element air cleaner system should be serviced (cleaned) every 25 hours of normal mowing, or more frequently in dusty conditions. Clean with soapy water, not gasoline, and dry for at least 12 hours. Replace if frayed, torn, or damaged.
  • Cutting Blade: Periodically inspect the blade and blade adapter for wear or damage. Sharpen the blade by grinding or filing, ensuring equal grinding to maintain balance. Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets. Lubricate the engine crankshaft and blade adapter with light oil before reassembly.
  • Deck Cleaning: Clean the underside of the mower deck after each use to remove grass clippings, leaves, and dirt. Tilt the mower with the air filter on the upside for cleaning.
  • Hose Connector (HBD-46R only): For easy deck cleaning, connect a water hose to the dedicated connector on the deck, turn on the water, and start the engine for automatic cleaning (max 5 minutes).
  • Storage (Off-Season):
    • Empty the fuel tank to prevent deterioration. This can be done with a suction pump, through the fuel strainer, or by running the engine until all fuel is consumed.
    • Add approximately 20 ml of oil to the combustion chamber via the spark plug hole, then operate the starter to distribute it.
    • Clean the fuel strainer.
    • Clean and grease the lawnmower.
    • Slightly grease the cutter to prevent corrosion.
    • Store in a dry, clean, frost-protected place out of reach of unauthorized persons.
    • Rust-proof equipment with light oil or silicone, especially cables and moving parts.
  • Warranty: A 24-month warranty covers material or production defects. An extended 5-year warranty is available if the lawn mower receives yearly service from a certified dealer or Hurricane's repair service, with proof of maintenance. Wear parts (knives, grass bags, wheels, belts, filters, spark plugs, carburettors) and damages from improper handling or commercial use are not covered.
