INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

54" MULCH KIT - 966 050401

IMPORTANT: BEFORE PROCEEDING, PLACE ALL CONTROLS IN

THE DISENGAGED OR OFF POSITION, REMOVE SPARK PLUG

WIRES FROM THE SPARK PLUGS AND REMOVE IGNITION KEY.

WARNING!

Blades are sharp. Protect your hands

with gloves and/or wrap blades with a

heavy cloth when handling.

Block the front of the mower up to give access 1.

to the underside of the front deck. Remove the

discharge chute assembly by removing hardware

(1) on the bracket top. Set the assembly and

hardware aside for reinstallation when the mulch

kit is not being used.

Remove the three nuts and bolts that protect the 2.

mulch kit fastening locations (2).

NOTE: Only one hardware site is shown in the

illustration.

Carefully remove the cutting blades, retaining the 3.

blade bolts for reuse. Clean any grass out from

underneath the deck.

Bolt left hand corner mulch bafe to the 4. outside

of the deck bafe weldment as shown in the

illustration.

Summary

Mulch Kit Installation and Safety

Preparation and Safety

Ensure controls are disengaged, remove spark plug wires, and ignition key before proceeding. Blades are sharp.

Remove Discharge Chute

Block mower front, remove discharge chute assembly hardware, and set aside for reinstallation.

Remove Existing Fasteners

Remove three nuts and bolts securing mulch kit fastening locations.

Remove Blades and Clean Deck

Carefully remove cutting blades, retain blade bolts, and clean grass from underneath the deck.

Attach Mulch Baffles

Bolt left hand corner mulch baffle to the deck baffle weldment.

Secure Baffles and Mulch Cap

Set baffles in place, secure to deck with nuts and bolts, and fasten the mulch cap.

Install Mulching Blades

Install kit mulching blades using existing blade bolts, torquing to 90 ft./lbs.

Final Checks and Positioning

Check blade clearance, ensure all hardware is tight, remove blocks, and return mower to normal position.

Mulching Guidelines

Grass Cutting Recommendations

Do not exceed 1/3 of grass height per pass; set mower deck cutting height at least 2" for 3" grass.

Operating Adjustments

Reduce ground speed, set engine RPM to maximum, keep blades sharp, and clean deck underside often.

Environmental Conditions

Perform mulching in dry conditions; wet grass does not mulch well and causes accumulation.
