      Your HUSTLER Portable Generator might not start for several reasons. First, ensure the generating set switch is in the "ON" position. Also, check the fuel level and refill the tank if it's empty. Insufficient engine oil can also prevent starting; check the oil level, as the engine has a low oil sensor. Finally, check for ignition by removing the spark plug, cleaning around its base, and testing for a spark. If there is no spark, replace the plug.

      To check the ignition on your HUSTLER Portable Generator, remove the spark plug cap and clean any dirt from around the plug base, then remove the spark plug. Install the spark plug in the plug cap. Turn the engine switch "ON". Ground the electrode to any engine ground and pull the recoil starter to see if sparks jump across the gap. If there is no spark, replace the plug.
