The Hydroscand PowerCut 5-850T is a stationary hose cutting machine designed for industrial use, specifically for cutting hydraulic hoses. This manual provides comprehensive information for its safe and competent operation, emphasizing adherence to safety regulations and proper maintenance procedures.
Function Description
The PowerCut 5-850T is a robust, stationary unit equipped with a pneumatic cylinder that controls the cutting process. The machine is operated via a foot pedal, which activates the pneumatic cylinder and presses down flap doors to secure the hose during cutting. It features an adjustable cutting support to ensure stable hose placement and a toothed cutting blade for efficient and precise cuts. The machine is also prepared for a smoke evacuation system (optional), which the manufacturer recommends installing with a spark filter to prevent hazards.
Key operational features include:
- Hose Bending System: This system can be activated when cutting larger diameter hoses (1 1/2" and above for multispiral hoses, 2" and above for braided hoses) to prevent damage during the cutting process.
- Cutting Stroke Switch: A three-way switch allows for preset return levels for the bending unit, preventing unnecessary full return strokes of the cylinder.
- Front Hatch: Operated by a pneumatic cylinder, the front hatch acts as a safety mechanism. In "auto" mode, it automatically closes before a cut and opens afterward. In "down" mode, it remains closed throughout the cutting process.
- Cutting Speed Adjustment: The cutting speed is adjustable based on the hose diameter, reinforcement, and material, ensuring optimal blade lifetime and cut quality.
- Counter with Reset Button: The machine includes a counter to track the number of cuts, which can be reset as needed.
- Emergency Stop Button: A prominent red emergency stop button is present for immediate shutdown in case of an emergency.
- On/Off Button: A standard on/off button controls the machine's power.
Important Technical Specifications
The PowerCut 5-850T is designed for cutting 1-, 2-, 4-, and 6-layer hydraulic hoses with dimensions ranging from 3/16" up to 3". It is crucial to only cut hydraulic hoses compatible with these specifications. Cutting solid steel, wood, or other unknown materials is strictly forbidden as it can cause damage to the machine or injury.

The machine is supplied with an electric cable but without a plug and main switch. It is the customer's responsibility to install the power supply according to national regulations, with the manufacturer recommending a lockable main switch between the machine and the mains.
Usage Features
Before operation, operators must ensure the machine is properly connected to the electrical net and air supply, with sufficient pressure. Safety precautions are paramount:
- Always wear goggles and hearing protection.
- Keep fingers and other body parts away from moving components.
- Verify the cutting blade's condition, tightness, and correct rotation direction (upper edge rotating towards the back of the machine).
- Ensure the hose bend system is working correctly, especially for hoses exceeding 2" outer diameter.
- If abnormal vibrations occur, immediately stop the machine and investigate the cause.
To start, release the emergency button by turning it clockwise, select the desired cutting speed, then press the start button and the foot pedal. The cutting speed should always be adjusted according to the hose dimension to optimize blade lifetime. For hoses above 2" up to 3", the cutting supports should not be used.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is essential for the machine's longevity and safe operation. All maintenance, except for specific procedures outlined in the manual, must be performed by authorized technical service personnel.
Before any maintenance:
- Unplug the machine from the electrical net.
- Disconnect pneumatic supply.
- Press down the emergency stop switch.
- Wear protective gloves, clothing, and shoes.
Replacing the Cutting Blade:
- Unplug the machine and press the emergency stop switch.
- Open the lid on the left side of the machine stand and the front hatch.
- Loosen the socket set screws and socket head cap screws behind the lid.
- Dismantle the old blade and install a new Hydroscand Machine recommended cutting blade (part No: 90050006 for toothed blade, 9005-00-05 for smooth blade).
- Tighten the center socket head screw to 80 Nm, then tighten the two socket set screws to secure the blade.
- Reassemble the lid and front hatch, ensuring all screws are tightened to 24 Nm using a torque wrench.
New cutting blades require a reduced speed for the first 200 cuts for running-in. The blade should never be overheated; if excessive smoke, heat, or motor stalls occur, interrupt the cut and find the cause.
After Each Working Shift:
- Press the emergency stop button.
- Remove all cutting residue.
- Reset the counter.
Regular Maintenance:
- Check the cutting blade for errors and ensure it is securely tightened.
- Empty the waste box and dispose of cutting waste.
- Empty the water separator from condensates.
The manual also includes detailed wiring diagrams for both Y/D starter and soft starter configurations, a pneumatic diagram, and technical drawings for various components, providing comprehensive information for troubleshooting and repairs. The warranty is valid for one year from purchase, provided all instructions in the manual and warranty certificate are followed.
