This document is an instruction manual for the HYUNDAI PETROL WOOD CHIPPER models HYCH700 and HYCH1400, designed for mulching garden and pruning waste such as green branches, twigs, brush, vines, and long grasses. It emphasizes safety, proper operation, and maintenance to ensure efficient and safe use of the machinery.
Function Description:
The Hyundai Petrol Wood Chipper is a robust machine designed to process organic waste into smaller chips, suitable for mulching or composting. It is powered by a four-stroke petrol engine, providing the necessary force to chip and shred various types of wood and plant material. The chipper features a hopper for feeding material, a chipper funnel, and a discharge chute for expelling processed chips. The engine includes essential controls such as a fuel tap, ON/OFF switch, choke, and throttle for managing its operation. The machine is built with a sturdy frame, supported by wheels and a front support leg, allowing for mobility and stability during use. It is specifically designed for garden and pruning waste and should not be used for construction debris, plastic, paper products, rope, twine, or any material containing metal.

The machine conforms to CE Directives EN ISO 14982:2009, EN13683:2003+A2, and AFPS GS 2014:01, with a measured sound power level of 110dB(A).
Usage Features:
The chipper/shredder requires minor assembly upon arrival, including attaching the wheel assembly, support leg, and handle. Before operation, it is crucial to fill the engine with oil and unleaded petrol, as the machine is shipped without oil. The fuel tank should not be filled above the top of the fuel filter.
Starting Procedure:
- Place the chipper/shredder on a flat, firm, dirt, or grass surface, pointing the outlet in a safe direction.
- Check oil and gas levels.
- Ensure the hopper and funnel are empty.
- Turn the fuel lever to the ON position.
- Set the choke lever to the ON position.
- Hold the engine firmly and pull the recoil starter cord sharply until the engine starts.
- Once running smoothly, return the choke lever to the OFF position.
- Adjust engine speed using the throttle control lever (high for chipping, medium/low for less demanding tasks).
Operation Guidelines:
- Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and leather gloves.
- Avoid loose clothing, neckties, rings, or jewelry that could get caught in moving parts.
- Do not operate when tired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Only allow trained personnel to operate the machine.
- Keep children and visitors away from the work area.
- Never leave the machine running unattended.
- Do not use in damp, wet, or flammable environments.
- Keep the work area clean and well lit.
- Slowly feed material into the hopper; avoid overstuffing to prevent jams.
- Use a 1" diameter branch to push material if necessary, never hands.
- If the engine bogs down, reduce the feeding rate.
- Remove twigs and smaller branches that might catch on the funnel edges.
- Feed branches thick end first into the funnel.
- Chipping green wood is easier and helps blades stay sharper longer.
- Avoid shredding wet leaves or brush to prevent clogging; alternate wet and dry material if necessary.
Stopping Procedure:
- Turn the engine ON/OFF switch to the OFF position.
- Once the engine has stopped, turn the fuel lever to the OFF position.
- Allow all moving parts to come to a complete stop and disconnect the spark plug wire before any maintenance or moving the machine.
Maintenance Features:
Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and safe operation of the chipper/shredder. Always turn off the machine, allow all moving parts to stop, and disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.
Visual Inspection:
- Before and after each use, inspect the machine for loose parts and damage.
- Check the hopper, hopper guard, and funnel for cracks, holes, and loose bolts.
- Inspect the box frame for cracks or damage.
- Verify the entire machine for loose bolts or screws.
- Check the blades and hammers for cracks and dings.
- Check the engine oil level.
Cleaning:
- Clean the machine after each use.
- Allow the motor to cool and remove the spark plug wire.
- Brush off or vacuum wood chips and wipe the exterior with a dry cloth.
- DO NOT rinse the chipper/shredder with water.
- Remove chips or debris from the hopper and discharge chute.
- Use an engine cleaner to remove built-up resins from the motor if necessary.
Spark Plug:
- Remove and check the spark plug every 50 hours of running.
- The deposits on the end should be "tan" colored.
- Clean deposits with a stiff brush or brass wire brush.
- Check and adjust the spark plug gap to 0.7 to 0.8mm.
Engine Oil:
- Place the machine on a level surface and warm up the engine for a few minutes, then stop it.
- Remove the oil filler cap.
- Place an oil pan under the engine and remove the oil drain plug to completely drain the oil. Use a tube to prevent oil from leaking onto the frame.
- Check the oil drain plug, gasket, oil filler cap, and O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.
- Reinstall the oil drain plug.
- Add engine oil up to the upper level of the dipstick.
Air Filter:
- Every 100 hours of running or monthly, remove, examine, and clean the air filter.
- Clean thoroughly using an environmentally friendly water-based degreasing agent.
- Allow to dry fully before replacing.
- WARNING: Never run the engine without the air filter fitted.
Fuel Tank Filter:
- Every 150 hours of running or every three months, remove and clean the fuel tank filter.
- Remove the fuel tank filler cap and the filter.
- Clean the filter thoroughly using an environmentally friendly water-based degreasing agent and refit.
Replacing Blades:
- Sharpen or replace blades when chipping performance deteriorates or if dings, chips, or cracks are noticed.
- Turn off the machine, allow all moving parts to stop, and disconnect the spark plug wire.
- Remove the side cover plate to expose the blades.
- Remove one blade, rotate the impeller, and remove the second blade.
- Have original blades professionally sharpened or order a replacement set.
- Re-install the blades, replace the side cover plate, and re-attach the spark plug wire.
Belt:
- Replace or tighten the v-belt if the motor runs but the chipper blades do not spin.
- Turn off the machine, allow all moving parts to stop, and disconnect the spark plug wire.
- Remove the v-belt cover.
- Roll the belt off the pulleys and install the new belt.
- Replace the v-belt cover and re-attach the spark plug wire.
Storage:
- Store the chipper/shredder in a dry, level area. Tipping may cause oil and petrol leaks.
- DO NOT store near ignition sources (wood stove, gas/electric heater, pilot light).
- Store in a well-ventilated area, away from human or animal inhabited areas to prevent toxic gas fumes.
- Close the discharge chute deflector and place covers over the hopper and funnel to prevent objects or critters from entering.
- For storage longer than one month, drain all fuel from the tank and carburetor.
- Remove the spark plug, pour one tablespoon of clean engine oil into the spark plug hole.
- With ignition OFF, gently pull the recoil starter cord several times.
- Re-fit the spark plug and continue pulling the cord until the piston is on the compression stroke (resistance is felt), then stop pulling.
