The IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback (MCN) system is a brainwave-based biofeedback modality designed to support the Central Nervous System (CNS) in self-regulation and neuroregulation. It is not a symptom or issue-based treatment, nor is it considered a medical treatment. Instead, it utilizes an EEG unit registered with the FDA to distract the brain and CNS from fixed patterning, which appears to help reverse issues connected to dysregulation of the brain and nervous system.

Function Description:

The IASIS MCN system works by measuring and tracking the electrical activity of the brain using an encephalograph (EEG) unit. It then sends back tiny, imperceptible, ultra-low power signals to the brain. These signals contain information based on the just preceding brainwave activity. The brain appears to adapt its own behavior based on this feedback, typically generating patterns corresponding to more useful (healthy) behavior. This process helps the brain to de-habituate from "stuck" patterns that represent suboptimal processing, reorganizing itself naturally into a healthier and more flexible way of being. The effects are independent of age, comprehension, or physical or mental capacity, and clients often notice a shift during the session, typically feeling relaxed and then energized. Over time, the brain becomes accustomed to this higher-functioning state, and the effects are expected to become lasting.

Important Technical Specifications:

Pulses: The system uses narrow pulses, approximately 120 nanoseconds (ns) in duration and 150 millivolts (mv) in amplitude.
Current Flow: Pulses are both positive and negative, meaning the tiny current flows in both directions.
Stimulation Calculation: The total amount of stimulation is calculated by adding the Dominant Brainwave frequency (Delta) to the offset pre-selected by the software.
Power: The energy emanating from the IASIS EEG C-2 unit is considered nano-energy, approximately 3 picowatts (pW), or three trillionths of a watt (10E-12 Watts). This is significantly less than the strength of a AA cell battery (450 μW, or 10E-6 Watts), which is about 7 million times greater.
EEG Unit: The system utilizes an EEG unit registered with the FDA.
Computer Software: The system requires a computer preloaded with IASIS Technologies 6.0 software.
USB Port: The IASIS MCN EEG interface device connects to the computer via a USB port that supports at least USB 2.0.
Batteries: The IASIS Technologies EEG interface device requires four fresh AA alkaline batteries.

Usage Features:

Protocols: The system offers various protocols (1-1 through 1-6), each with different offset frequencies, durations, and feedback characteristics. These protocols are tailored to and supplied only for the specific IASIS MCN EEG interface supplied.
- 1-1. Manual Offsets: Produces 30 seconds of active resonant signal with minimal background. Clinician chooses offset, which defaults to 10 Hz. Good for new or reactive clients.
- 1-2. Genesis: Random Offsets 1: Gentle starting point with 5-second intervals of 3.3, 6.6, 10, and 7 Hz offsets, beginning with 14 Hz.
- 1-3. Balanced Energy: Random Offsets 2: Provides 13 varied offset frequencies changing at 2-second intervals. Useful for a broad range of clients, including those with inflammation. 11 Hz lead-change offset.
- 1-4. Activation: Ups and Downs: A relatively aggressive protocol with 22 seconds of changing active EEG dominant tracking signal, stepping 5-14 Hz. Useful for attention issues, activating, and mood lifting. 7 Hz lead-change offset.
- 1-5. Activation Plus: Full Ramp Up: A ramp variation producing 20 seconds of increasing offset active EEG dominant tracking signal. Offset changes every second. Intended for situations with insufficient activation.
- 1-6. NEUROBLAST: Full Ramp Down: A more activating variation of 1-5, producing 20 seconds of decreasing offset, active EEG dominant tracking signal, against a background of 7 Hz offset during lead change. Offset automatically "ramped" down every second from 20 to 1 Hz.
Site Selection: EEG leads are attached to desired International 10-20 System scalp sites. The manual suggests starting with F3/F4.
Impedance Test: The software includes an impedance test to ensure good contact. Green indicates good impedance (10 KOhm or less).
Signal Monitoring: The software displays EEG signals and frequency spectrum to verify correct signals and absence of 60 Hz interference.
Battery Level Indicator: A screen indicator shows battery level (green for good, yellow for replace soon, red for replace now).
Session Management: Protocols include pauses for changing electrode sites or adjusting settings. Users can exit a session at any time.
Data Management: The system allows for saving session data to a database and exporting it to Excel spreadsheets. This includes subject information, session date/time, and various signal data (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Theta, etc.).
Client Intake: Crucial verbal intake is performed before each session, noting fragility vs. hardiness for elements like head, gut, sleep, hyper-acousis, photo-phobia, and other symptoms. Self-observation (subjective reality as measurement) is used to track changes.
Guidelines of Care: IASIS Technologies provides guidelines for appropriate and sound measures of protocol, site and cycle selection, and session duration to ensure safe, prudent, and efficacious performance of IASIS MCN. Adherence to these guidelines is prerequisite to maintaining safety and good standing as an IASIS Certified Provider (ICP).

Maintenance Features:

Electrode Preparation: Onsite preparation recommends using 91% isopropyl alcohol, Nihon Kohden's conductive paste (Elefix), and pre-cleanser (skinPure). Skin should be cleaned, scrubbed, and moisturized before applying Elefix paste and EEG contacts.
Battery Replacement: The software indicates when AA batteries in the EEG interface device need to be replaced.
Software Updates: The manual mentions that during installation or updates, the background of the startup screen may appear solid, which is normal depending on configuration.
