Install or Upgrade using VSCSI Virtual Optical support
IBM i or VIOS hosting – can provide virtual storage and/or just the optical (POWER6/7)
-From HMC, create a server VSCSI to map to the client
partition
-Create a NWSD for the client partition & vary on
-Client side will auto create an OPTxx device or
devices for each physical an virtual option presented
-Load images into the IMGCLG or a physical optical
drive on the Server.
Media in either the physical DVD/CD or virtual optical on the
Server can be used by the client
-From HMC:
- create a client VSCSI (“as required” initially) to map
to the hosting partition.
-Under tagged IO for Alternate Restart Device select
the Client VSCSI resource.
-Once tagged, change the VSCSI to “as desired”.
-Utilize them to install, upgrade, PTF maintenance
