performance adapters, such as Ethernet, Fibre Channel cards, none of which will run in
older legacy PCI slots.
Standard ServeRAID C100 for IBM System x provides integrated RAID-0/1 on SATA
models for no additional cost.
Optional integrated hardware RAID-0/1/10/5/6 support offers improved performance and/or
redundancy, but doesn’t consume a valuable adapter slot.
Support for two simple-swap 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drives or up to four hot swap (HS)
or simple-swap (SS) 2.5-inch SAS HDDs (SS via CTO only) offers high-performance and
large capacity with high availability. The SAS/SATA controller provides full-duplex data
transfers for SAS drives.
Up to two 3.5-inch enterprise-class SATA II or up to four 2.5-inch SAS hard disk drives
(model-specific) offer terrific price/performance (incorporating up to 6Gbps throughput).
The two integrated single-port Gigabit Ethernet controllers with IPMI 2.0 support provide
high-speed network communications.
A high degree of device integration, including SATA, systems management, video, dual
Gigabit Ethernet, and optional RAID controllers, lowers costs and frees up valuable adapter
slots.
Energy-efficient components, including DDR3 memory and power supplies, help keep your
energy bills down.
Flexibility
The x3250 M4 has the ability to grow with your application requirements, thanks to:
A choice of one quad-core Xeon E3 processor with 2.2 to 3.5GHz clock rate, 8MB of L3
cache, and 1333MHz memory access, or a dual-core Core i3 processor with a 3.1 or
3.3GHz clock rate, 3MB of L3 cache, and 1333MHz memory access.
A choice of 20 or 65W dual-core or 45-95W quad-core processors.
Up to 32GB of high-speed DDR3 system memory.
Two adapter slots: one PCIe x8, plus one PCIe x4 (used by the ServeRAID-BR10il v2
controller, if installed) in all models.
The seven USB 2.0 ports (two front, four rear, one internal) are up to 40X faster
2
than older
USB 1.1 ports. This provides speedy access to external HDDs (non-arrayed), optical drives,
tape drives, and other USB devices. The internal ports can be used for an optional USB key
with embedded hypervisor and an internal data backup device, such as a tape drive or RDX
Removable Disk Cartridge drive.
Up to two internal 3.5-inch simple-swap SATA or four 2.5-inch hot swap or simple-swap
SAS HDDs (model dependant), can be installed. Support for up to four simple-swap 2.5-
inch SAS drives is available via CTO. This provides tremendous internal storage capability,
along with full data backup.
Alternatively, external SAS, SATA, iSCSI or Fibre Channel-attached storage can be
attached using IBM System Storage
®
servers.
Powerful systems management features simplify local and remote management of the x3250
M4:
The x3250 M4 includes an Integrated Management Module version 2 (IMM2) to monitor
server availability, perform Predictive Failure Analysis, etc., and trigger IBM Systems
Director alerts.
Integrated industry-standard Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) next-generation
BIOS. New capabilities include:
Human readable event logs; no more beep codes
Complete setup solution by allowing adapter configuration function to be moved into
UEFI
Complete out-of-band coverage by Advance Settings Utility to simplify remote setup
Integrated IPMI 2.0 support alerts IBM Systems Director to anomalous environmental
factors, such as voltage and thermal conditions.
The completely redesigned IBM Systems Director is included for proactive systems
management. IBM Systems Director comes with a portfolio of tools, including Service and
Support Manager, and others. In addition, IBM Systems Director offers extended systems
management tools for additional server management and increased availability. When a
problem is encountered, IBM Systems Director can issue administrator alerts via e-mail,
