Overview

This document is an installation and user manual for the IK62 hood, manufactured by IKON. The manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe operation, installation, and maintenance of the appliance.

The IK62 hood is designed to extract vapor and odors arising from cooking, making it suitable for use in kitchens with both electric and gas cookers. It is intended for indoor use only and not for industrial purposes. The hood is installed in the operation plate at the back of the cooking area, and its design allows for flexible motor box connection and air duct routing.

Function Description

The IK62 hood features an elevator mechanism for opening and closing the hood cover. Operation is primarily controlled via a remote control.

  • Opening/Closing the Hood Cover: The hood cover can be opened by pressing key no. 2 on the remote control for 2 seconds. Closing the hood cover requires pressing the '-' key for 2 seconds. The opening process can be paused by pressing either the '+' or '-' key for 2 seconds. The motor can only be operated when the hood cover is fully opened and stationary.
  • Motor Operation and Power Levels: The motor is activated or stopped by pressing key no. 1 once. It starts at level 1. Power levels can be increased or decreased using the '+' or '-' keys. Pressing the '-' key at level 1 will stop the motor. The number of illuminated diodes on the remote control indicates the current motor level.
  • Additional Operation Switch: The hood includes an additional operation switch that automatically turns off the motor after 15 minutes. This feature is activated by pressing key no. 1 for 3 seconds. While active, motor levels can be adjusted with key no. 1 or no. 2. The additional operation switch can be turned off by pressing key no. 1 for 3 seconds. The hood cover can still be used while this switch is active.
  • Power Outage Behavior: In the event of a power cut-off during operation, the hood will remain in the off position when power is restored, and the hood cover will retain its last position. Normal operation can then be resumed as described.
  • Air Recirculation Mode (Optional): For air recirculation, an active carbon filter box (AFP 711) is installed to return filtered air to the kitchen. The stainless steel front plate with a drawer is secured by magnets, allowing easy access for carbon filter pad installation and replacement. The distance of the front plate from the box can be adjusted during installation by turning the magnets.

Usage Features

The IK62 hood emphasizes user safety and convenience.

  • Safety Warnings: The manual highlights critical safety information, including warnings against health-related risks, potential injuries, and material damage. It stresses the importance of following instructions to prevent accidents.
  • Children and Non-Competent Persons: The appliance should not be used by children or individuals with reduced mental, physical, or technological capabilities unless supervised by a competent person. It is crucial not to leave the appliance unattended, especially when children are nearby.
  • Package Materials: Packaging materials are recyclable and should be discarded according to instructions to prevent choking hazards.
  • Prohibited Uses: The manual explicitly prohibits operating the hood without the metal oil filter, sterilizing by flames near the hood (as oil deposits can catch fire), and operating hobs without cookware.
  • Installation Guidance: Detailed figures and instructions are provided for installation, including creating cross-sections on the operating plate, securing the hood body and motor box, and connecting air ducts. It warns against damaging supply pipes during drilling and recommends using a device to locate metal and live pipes.
  • Fault Troubleshooting: A dedicated section helps users identify and resolve common issues, such as the hood not working, power loss, excessive noise, blinking operation level indicators, and smoke passing by the hood. Solutions range from checking power connections to cleaning/replacing filters and adjusting cookware placement.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the safety, operation, and longevity of the IK62 hood.

  • General Maintenance Instructions: The hood should be maintained regularly and cleaned immediately after installation and whenever it becomes dirty.
  • Cleaning the Hood Body: Improper cleaning can cause discoloration. Steam cleaners, aggressive cleaning agents (vinegar-based, scrubbing agents, sanding granules), and sharp objects should not be used. Foil residues on stainless steel surfaces should be cleaned carefully after installation to prevent stains.
  • Cleaning Stainless Steel Surfaces: Special stainless steel cleaning agents are recommended, such as Silverline Product No. PS 500 stainless steel spray, which creates a protective layer to reduce finger stains.
  • Cleaning the Metal Oil Filter: An excessively greasy metal oil filter poses a fire risk, so regular cleaning is essential. The filter can be softened in hot water and cleaned with a soft brush. It can also be washed in a dishwasher at up to 55°C using a proper program, ideally individually to prevent contact with food remains. Discoloration on the filter does not negatively affect its function.
  • Removing and Placing the Metal Oil Filter: To access the filters, the hood cover must be opened to its maximum position, then pressed slightly backward to unlock the safety lock and cut off power. The stainless steel oil filters are located under the intake area and can be easily removed. A small groove under the filters collects dripping oil and can also be cleaned.
  • Active Carbon Filter Pad (AFP 711) Maintenance: In recirculation mode, the active carbon filter pad needs regular washing or replacement. It can be washed up to 3 times, with a life cycle of 3-4 months under normal cooking conditions (2-3 months for frequent cooking). Washing can be done by hand or in a dishwasher (up to 55°C, on its own). After washing, it should be air-dried or dried in an oven at 80°C for a maximum of 40 minutes. Failure to maintain the carbon filter can lead to motor noise and foul odors.
  • Maintenance Interval: The manual provides a clear maintenance schedule:
    • Metal oil filter: Clean every 1-2 weeks or when discoloration due to oil occurs.
    • Active carbon filter pad: Wash or replace approximately every 3 months, or when power loss occurs, or operating noise becomes very high.
  • Power Loss and Performance: The manual warns that power loss can occur if maintenance intervals are not followed, as oil and dirt accumulation in filters can adversely affect hood functions.
