Do you have a question about the INCINOLET 4100 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The INCINOLET is an electric incinerating toilet designed for sanitation without pollution. It is intended for use by individuals familiar with its operation, installation, use, and maintenance. The toilet is not recommended for general public use or in some rental properties.

Function Description:

The INCINOLET operates by incinerating human feces, urine, tampons, and toilet paper. After each use, a bowl liner is placed in the toilet, and waste is dropped into the incineration chamber by depressing a foot pedal. The start button is then pressed to initiate an incineration cycle. During the cycle, a heater and blower activate. The heater alternates on and off for 75 minutes, while the blower continues for an additional 20 to 40 minutes to cool the unit and exhaust smoke and odor through a catalyst. The unit can be used at any time during an incineration cycle.

Important Technical Specifications:

The INCINOLET is available in two main voltage configurations:

  • 120 Volts: (Serial Number 57200-)
  • 240 Volts: (Serial Number 41000-)
  • 208 Volts: Uses 240v parts except for the 208v heater (HEA009) and 120v Blower Motor (MOT006).

Electrical requirements include a dedicated 20-amp circuit with an appropriate receptacle (5-20R for 125v-20 amps or 6-20R for 250v-20 amps). The power cord is 4 feet long. Extension cords are not to be used with this appliance.

The timer is factory-set to 75 minutes but can be adjusted from 0 to 3 hours. The temperature controller is set to 1030°F for 2000-watt toilets and 996°F for 3500-watt toilets. One complete cycle consumes approximately 1.5 to 2 kilowatt-hours of electricity.

Venting:

The vent pipe can run horizontally or vertically. Venting materials can be placed within a wall. A minimum of 4 inches clearance is required on the left side of the toilet, and 6 to 8 inches on the right side (facing the toilet) for foot pedal operation. No clearance is needed between the pipe and wall. The maximum length for a 4-inch diameter pipe is 10 feet plus 2 elbows. For longer runs, larger diameter pipe is recommended (up to 6 inches diameter for 15 feet max). The vertical vent-line should terminate with a rain cap, and horizontal venting should use a dryer flap or a downward-turned PVC elbow to prevent back-drafting. A 1/4-inch mesh "hardware cloth" can be used to keep critters out of the vent-line.

Safety Features:

  • Timer: Limits the heating cycle duration.
  • Temperature Controller: Limits the heater temperature.
  • Safety Thermostat (STS): Prevents overheating if the blower fails, activating if the internal air temperature reaches about 140°F.
  • Limit Thermostat (TS): Limits the chamber skin temperature to 300°F if the controller fails.
  • Blower Thermostat (ITS): Turns the fan off when the chamber's outer skin cools to 130°F and turns it on again if the temperature increases.

Usage Features:

  • Bowl Liners: Always use a bowl liner for each and every use to prevent urine from draining to the floor and to contain waste for incineration. Liners are made of special paper coated with polyethylene film.
  • Ashpan Emptying: The ashpan should be emptied daily, or when ash is no more than 2 inches deep. Excessive ash build-up can cause odor, shorten heater life, and decrease efficiency. Ash is germ-free and safe to handle when light-colored; dark ash indicates incomplete burning, requiring an extra cycle. Ash is not suitable for fertilizer or compost and should be disposed of in household trash.
  • Overload Prevention: Accumulation of more than three small urine deposits or one feces deposit is considered an overload, requiring more burn time and potentially causing odor and reducing heater life.
  • Party Stress Tips: For periods of heavy use, empty the ashpan before guests arrive, ensure proper bowl liner use, and check occasionally to prevent overfilling. Extra cycles may be needed for complete burning.
  • Power Failure: In case of power interruption during a cycle, smoke and odor may occur. Open a window for ventilation. The fan should restart automatically when power returns if the unit is still hot.
  • Interrupting a Cycle: A cycle can be stopped by turning off the circuit breaker or unplugging the unit.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Wipe up urine spills as they happen.
    • Clean the blower wheel and inside of the INCINOLET every 3 to 6 months using a detergent or spray cleaner (avoid pine oil cleaners or anything scented).
    • Stainless steel polish can be used on exterior surfaces.
    • Do not steam clean the unit.
  • Ashpan Removal/Replacement: The ashpan is removed by raising the camlock handle, unhooking it, and pulling the pan out. To replace, push the ashpan firmly into place, engage the camlock hook, and push the handle down.
  • Removing the Top (Seat, Lid, Bowl Halves): The top is secured by four screws and a rubber boot. Remove these to lift the top. When replacing, hold the bowl halves together and lower the top into position.
  • Access Panel: Four screws hold the access panel on the right side of the toilet, exposing the blower thermostat, limit thermostat, thermocouple, and heater terminals.
  • Blower Wheel Maintenance: The blower wheel should be cleaned if it becomes noisy or vibrates. It can be cleaned in place or removed by loosening three screws on the blower motor plate and using a 1/8" Allen wrench to remove the set screw in the wheel hub. Do not get the blower motor wet.
  • Heater Replacement: This involves removing the ashpan, access panel, and top. Disconnect wiring, push up on heater coils to clear brackets, and remove the heater through the ashpan opening. Installation is the reverse, ensuring the heater is at the lowest position in its bracket and coils do not touch.
  • Thermocouple Replacement: Unplug the unit, remove the access panel, disconnect wire leads, push in the knurled rod, turn to disengage, and pull out the thermocouple. When installing, ensure the tip contacts the lower heater coil and color-coded wires are correctly connected.
  • Catalyst: The INCINOLET uses heat-activated platinum type catalyst pellets to suppress smoke and odor. These pellets are in a chamber near the blower and typically do not need replacement. If exterior odor is present and the toilet interior is clean, the catalyst should be replaced.
  • Relay Replacement: The relay, located in the control box, controls electric current to the heater. Replacement involves unplugging the unit, removing the top, disconnecting lead wires (marking their positions), and prying out the old relay.
