APPLYING/RELEASING MANUALLY
Theelectric parking brakecan be applied or re-
leased by operating the parking brakehandle

To apply: Push handle

When the electric parking brakeisapplied, the
red
m
indicator lamp lights up in the combina-
tion meter.
Theelectric parking brakecan alsobeapplied
when theignition switch isin the OFF positionor
the keyisremoved.
To release: With the ignition switch in the ON
position, pullhandle

Before driving, checkthatthe brakewarning
light
m

The electric parking brakecan only be released
when theignition switch is in the ON position.
APPLYING AUTOMATICALLY
(vehicles with
automatictransmission)
The electric parking brakeisautomatically ap-
plied when:
Intelligent cruisecontrol (where fitted) brings the
vehicle to astandstill.
or
Intelligent Parking Assist (where fitted) is keeping
the vehicle stationary.
The red
m
indicator lamp lights up in the com-
bination meter.
The electric parking brakeisnot automatically
applied if the engine is switched off by the ECO
stop/startfunction
RELEASING AUTOMATICALLY
Theelectric parking brakecan only be released
automatically in vehicles with automatic trans-
mission.
Theelectric parking brake of your vehicle is re-
leased automatically when allofthe following
conditionsare fulfilled:
Theengine is running.
The transmission is in position D(Drive) or R(Re-
verse).
Theseatbelt is fastened.
Youdepressthe accelerator pedal.
Ifthetransmissionis in positionR, thebackdoor
must be closed.
If your seat belt is not fastened, the following
conditionsmustbefulfilledtoautomatically re-
leasethe electric parking brake:
The driver’s door is closed
Youhave shifted out of transmission position P
(Park) or youhave previously driven faster than 3
km/h.
Ensure that youdonot depressthe accelerator
pedalunintentionally.Otherwise, the parking
brakewillbereleased and the vehicle will start
to move.
