FM radio reception
MAXIMUMSIGNAL DISTANCES
FM :40to48km(25 to 30 miles)
AM :97to209 km (60 to 130miles)
Range: FM rangeisnormally limited to 40 to 48
km (25to30miles), with monaural (single sta-
tion)FMhavingslightly more rangethanstereo
FM. External influences maysometimes inter-
ferewith FM stationreception even if theFM sta-
tion is within 40 km (25miles). The strength of
the FM signal is directly related to the distance
between the transmitter and receiver.FMsig-
nals follow aline-of-sight path, exhibiting many
of thesame characteristicsaslight. Forexample
they will reflect off objects.
Fade and drift: As your vehicle moves away from
astation transmitter, the signals will tend to
fade and/or drift.
Static and flutter: During signal interference
from buildings, largehills or due to antennapo-
sition, usually in conjunction with an increased
distancefrom the station transmitter,static or
flutter canbeheard. Thiscan be reduced by low-
eringthe treble setting to reducethe treble re-
sponse.
Multipathreception: Becauseofthe reflective
characteristicsofFMsignals, direct and
reflected signals reachthe receiver at the same
time. The signals maycancel each other,result-
inginmomentaryflutter or lossofsound.
AM radio reception
AM signals, because of their low frequency, can
bend around objects and skip alongthe ground.
In addition, the signals canbounceoff the iono-
sphere andbebent backtoearth.Because of
thesecharacteristics, AM signals arealso sub-
ject to interferenceasthey travel from transmit-
ter to receiver.
Fading: Thisoccurswhile the vehicle is passing
through motorwayunderpasses or in areas with
many tall buildings. It canalso occur forseveral
secondsduring ionospheric turbulenceeven in
areas where no obstacles exist.
Static: Caused by thunderstorms, electrical
power lines, electric signsand even traffic
lights.
Digital Audio Broadcast(DAB)
The supported standards for this system are
DABand DAB+.
Some of thestationsdonot supportEPG (Elec-
tricProgramme Guide).
Depending on the reception condition, acquir-
ing or updating EPG datamay take some time.
