braking effect after several hundred kilometres
or milesofdriving. Compensate for the reduced
brakingeffect by applyinggreater forcetothe
brakepedal.
If youtreat the engine with sufficient care from
the verystart,you will be rewarded with excel-
lent performancefor the remainder of the en-
gine’s life.

Drive at varyingvehicle speeds andengine speeds
for the first 1500 km (1000 miles).

Avoid overstraining the vehicle during thisperiod,
e.g. driving at fullthrottle.

Changegearingood time, before the rev counter
needle is 2/3 of the waytothe red areaofthe rev
counter.

Donot shift downagearmanuallyin orderto brake.

:Try to
avoid depressing the accelerator pedal be-
yond the point of resistance(kick down).
After 1500 km, youmay gradually bring the ve-
hicle up to fullroad and engine speeds.
Youshould alsoobservethesenoteson running-
in if the engine or parts of the drive trainon your
vehicle have been replaced.

Thedriving characteristicsofyour vehicle will change
remarkably by any additional load and its distribu-
tion, as wellasbyadding optional equipment (trailer
coupling, roof racks, etc.). Your driving style and
speedmustbeadjusted according to the circum-
stances. Especially when carrying heavy loads, your
speed must be reduced adequately.

Makesure the areaaround the vehicle is clear.
•
Visuallyinspecttyres for their appearanceand con-
dition.Measure and checkthe tyre pressure for
proper inflation.
•
Checkthatall windows and lights are clean.
•
Adjust the seat and head restraint positions.
•
Adjustthe insideand outside rear view mirrorposi-
tions.
•
Fasten your seat belt and askall passengerstodo
the same.
•
Checkthe operation of the warning lights when the
ignition switch is pushed to the ON position.
•
Maintenanceitems in the “8. Maintenanceand do-
it-yourself” section should be checkedperiodi-
cally.
