Properly secure allcargo to help prevent it from

NOTE
During the first few months after purchasing anew
vehicle, if yousmellstrong odours of Volatile Organic
Compounds (VOCs) inside the vehicle, ventilate the
passengercompartmentthoroughly.Open allthewin-
dows before entering or while in the vehicle. In addi-
tion, whenthe temperaturein thepassenger compart-
ment rises, or when the vehicle is parked in direct
sunlight for aperiod of time, turn off the air recircula-
tion mode of theair conditioner and/or open the win-
dows to allow sufficient fresh air into the passenger
compartment.
EXHAUSTGAS

Do notbreathe exhaust gas;itcontainscolourless
and odourlesscarbon monoxide. Carbon monox-
ide is dangerous. It cancause unconsciousnessor
death.

If yoususpect that exhaust fumes are entering the
vehicle,drivewithallwindowsfullyopen,andhave
the vehicle inspected immediately.
•
Do not runthe engine in closed spaces such as a
garage.
•
Do notpark the vehicle with theengine running for
an extended period of time.
•
Keep the backdoor closed while driving, other-
wiseexhaust gas could be drawn into the passen-
gercompartment. If youmustdrive with the back
door open, follow these precautions:
– Open allthe windows.
– Turn the air recirculation switch off and
setthe fancontrol to the highest level to
circulate the air.
•
If aspecial body or other equipment is added for
recreational or other usage, follow the manufac-
turer’s recommendation to prevent carbon monox-
ide entr
yi
nto the vehicle. (Some recreational ve-
hicleappliances suchasstoves, refrigerators,
heaters, etc.mayalso generatecarbon monoxide.)
•
The exhaustsystem andbody shouldbe inspected
by aqualified mechanic whenever:
– Yoususpect that exhaust fumes areen-
tering into the passenger compartment.
– Younoticeachangeinthe sound of the
exhaust system.
– Youhave hadanaccident involving dam-
agetothe exhaustsystem,underbody,or
rear of the vehicle.

hot. Keep people, animals and flammable materi-
als away fromthe exhaust system components.

Do notstop or parkthe vehicle over flammable ma-
terials such as drygrass, wastepaper or rags.They
mayignite and causeafire.
Thethree-way catalystis an emissioncontrol de-
vice installedintheexhaustsystem.Exhaustgas
in the three-way catalyst is burned at high tem-
peraturestohelp reducepollutants.
