ding andanaccident.
Only deactivate ESP/VDC in the situationsdescribed
in thefollowingsection.
Youcan select between the followingstatuses
of ESP/VDC:

When using snow chains.
•
In deep snow.
•
On sand or gravel.
NOTE
Activate ESP/VDC as soon as the situationsdescribed
above no longer apply.ESP/VDC will otherwisenot be
able to stabilise the vehicle if the vehicle starts to
skid or awheel starts to spin.
Youcan activate/deactivate ESP/VDC using the

situations, ESP/VDC will not stabilise the ve-
hicle.
If youdeactivate ESP/VDC:
•
ESP/VDC no longer improves driving stability.
•
Engine torque is no longer limited and the drive
wheels are able to spin.
The spinning of the wheels results in acut-
tingaction for better traction on loose sur-
faces.
•
Traction control is stillactivated.
•
ESP/VDC stillprovides supportwhen youbrake.
ESP/VDC TRAILER STABILISATION
If your vehicle trailer combination beginsto
lurch, ESP/VDC assists you in this situation.
ESP/VDC slows the vehicle down by braking and
limiting the engine output until the vehicle/
trailer combination has stabilised.
WARNING
If road and weather conditionsare poor, trailer stabi-
lisation will not be able to prevent the vehicle/trailer
combinationfrom swerving.Trailerswithahigh centre
of gravitycan tip over before ESP/VDC candetect this.
There is ariskofanaccident.
Alwaysadapt your driving style to the prevailing road
andweather conditions.
If your vehicle/trailer combination beginsto
lurch, youcan only stabilise the vehicle/trailer
combination by depressing the brake.
ESP/VDC trailer stabilisation is active above
speeds of approximately 65 km/h.
ESP/VDC trailer stabilisation does not work if
ESP/VDC is deactivated or disabled because of
am
alfunction.
