WARNING
•
TheESP/VDC systemis designedtohelp the driver
maintain stability but does not prevent accidents
due to abrupt steering operation at high speeds or
by carelessordangerousdriving techniques. Re-
ducevehicle speed and be especially careful when
drivingand cornering on slipperysurfacesand al-
ways drive carefully.
•
Do notmodifythe vehicle’s suspension. If suspen-
sion parts such as shockabsorbers, struts,
springs, stabiliser bars, bushings and wheels are
notINFINITI recommended for your vehicle or are
extremely deteriorated, the ESP/VDC system may
not operate properly.Thiscould adversely affect
vehicle handling performance, and the ESP/VDC
warning light
m
mayilluminate.
•
If brakerelated parts such as brakepads, rotors
and callipers are not INFINITI recommended or are
extremelydeteriorated, the ESP/VDC system may
not operate properly and the ESP/VDC warning
light
m
mayilluminate.
•
If engine control related partsare not INFINITI rec-
ommendedorare extremelydeteriorated,the ESP/
VDC warning light
m
mayilluminate.
•
Whendriving on extremely inclined surfacessuch
as higher banked corners, the ESP/VDC system
maynot operate properly and the ESP/VDC warn-
ing light
m
mayilluminate. Donot drive on these
types of roads.
•
When driving on an unstablesurface suchasa
turntable, ferry, elevator or ramp, the ESP/VDC
warning light
m
mayilluminate. Thisisnot a
malfunction. Restartthe engine after driving onto
astable surface.
•
If wheels or tyres otherthanthe INFINITI recom-
mendedones are used, the ESP/VDC system may
not operate properly and the ESP/VDC warning
light
m
mayilluminate.
•
The ESP/VDC system is not asubstitute forwinter
tyres or tyre chains on asnow covered road.
•
If ESP/VDC is malfunctioning, ESP/VDC is unable
to stabilise the vehicle. In addition, other driving
safety systemsare switched off.Thisincreases the
risk of skidding andanaccident. Drive on care-
fully.Have ESP/VDC checkedatanINFINITI centre
or qualifiedworkshop.
CAUTION
•
When ESP/VDC is deactivated, the
m
ESP/VDC
OFF warning light lights up continuously.
•
If both the
m
warning light and
m
warning
light are lit continuously,ESP/VDC is notavailable
due to amalfunction.
ESP/VDCmonitors drivingstability andtraction,
i.e. power transmission between the tyres and
theroad surface.
If ESP/VDC detects that the vehicle is deviating
from the direction desiredbythe driver, one or
more wheels are braked to stabilisethe vehicle.
Theengine output is also modified to keep the
vehicleonthe desired course within physical
limits. ESP/VDC assists the driver when pulling
awayon wetorslipperyroads.ESP/VDCcanalso
stabilise the vehicle during braking.
TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCS)
TheTraction Control System (TCS)ispartofESP/
VDC.
Traction control brakes the drive wheels indi-
vidually if they spin. Thisenables youtopull
awayand accelerateonslipperysurfaces, forex-
ample ifthe roadsurface is slipperyonone side.
In addition, more torque is transferred to the
wheelorwheels with traction.
Traction control remainsactive if youdeactivate
ESP/VDC.
CHARACTERISTICSOFESP/VDC
If the
m
ESP/VDC warning light goes out be-
forebeginning the journey,ESP/VDC is auto-
matically active.
If ESP/VDC intervenes, the
m
ESP/VDC warn-
inglight flashes in the combination meter.
If ESP/VDC intervenes:
•
Do not deactivate ESP/VDC under any circum-
stances.
•
When pulling away,onlydepressthe accelerator
pedal as farasisnecessary.
