m
Cruise control maintainsaconstant road speed
for you. It brakes automatically in order to avoid
exceedingthe set speed. Youmustselect alower
gearingood time on long and steep downhill
gradients, especiallyifthe vehicle is laden or
towing
atrailer.For vehicles with automatic
transmission,youneed tohave selectedmanual
drive program M(see
“Manual drive program” ear-
lier in thissection
). By doing so,you will make use
of the braking effect of the engine. Thisrelieves
the load on the brakesystem and prevents the
brakes from overheating and wearing too
quickly.
Usecruise control only if road and traffic condi-
tionsare appropriate formaintaining asteady
speed for aprolonged period. Youcan store any
road speed above 30 km/h.
Thespeed indicated in the speedometer may
differ slightly from the speed stored.
CAUTION
If youfail to adapt your driving style, cruise control
canneither reducethe risk of an accident nor override
thelaws of physics.Cruise control cannot take into
accountroad, weather or traffic conditions. Cruise
control is only an aid. Youare responsiblefor the dis-
ta

etot
he vehicle in front, for
ve
hicle speed, for
brakingingood time, and for staying in lane.
If there is achangeofdrivers, advisethe new driver of
the speedstored.
