Why does my Ingersoll-Rand HA Grinder have low power or low free speed?
- MMarcia GarciaAug 11, 2025
If your Ingersoll-Rand Grinder has low power or low free speed, start by checking the air line pressure at the tool's inlet; it should be 90 psig (6.2 bar/620 kPa). Other potential causes include clogged muffler elements, which require disassembling the tool and cleaning the Motor Housing and Flange in a suitable cleaning solution or replacing them. A plugged inlet screen should be cleaned or replaced. Also, inspect for worn or broken vanes and replace them as a set. Make sure that the Clamp Nut or Arbor Housing are tightened to between 20 and 25 ft–lb (27 and 34 Nm) torque. Other possible issues are worn or broken Motor Housing, grit buildup under the Throttle Lever, bent stem on Throttle Valve, or Front Seal Cup Assembly dragging against the shield of the Front Rotor Bearing.
