OVERVIEW
INKBIRD INK-IFT02 adopts non-contact infrared sensing technology and is capable of
detecting the temperatures of objects securely, accurately, rapidly, and reliably. You can use
it in temperature measurement of dangerous and inaccessible objects in high-heat
environments such as mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, light engineering,
metallurgy, ceramics, food processing, electricity, and heat treatment.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
Any object of which temperature is higher than absolute zero can radiate infrared energy,
which will transmit everywhere all-around at the speed of light. Thus, the optical lens of the
infrared thermometer will collect all infrared energy and gather it on the sensor to produce a
low-voltage output that is proportionate to the object’s temperature. The voltage output will
be processed and transformed to display as a temperature value.
OPERATION INSTRUCTION
The infrared thermometer is constructed in several parts. Please refer to the introduction
below when using it (as shown in figure 1-1).
Starting Up
Press the POWER/SCAN button to turn on the device. The thermometer will start
self-checking and automatically measure and display the temperature value.
Liquid Crystal Display
After turning on the device, you can see all functional icons on the screen (as shown in

Overview

The INKBIRD INK-IFT02 is a non-contact infrared thermometer designed for secure, accurate, rapid, and reliable temperature detection of objects. It is particularly useful for measuring temperatures of dangerous and inaccessible objects in high-heat environments. Its applications span various fields including mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, light engineering, metallurgy, ceramics, food processing, electricity, and heat treatment.

Function Description:

The device operates on the principle that any object with a temperature above absolute zero radiates infrared energy. The thermometer's optical lens collects this infrared energy and focuses it onto a sensor, generating a low-voltage output proportional to the object's temperature. This voltage is then processed and converted into a temperature reading displayed on the screen.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Product Name: Infrared Thermometer
  • Temperature Range: -50°C ~ 550°C (-58°F ~ 1022°F)
  • Measurement Accuracy:
    • ≥100°C: ±2%
    • ≤100°C: ±2°C
  • Object Distance Ratio (D:S): 12:1 (meaning at a distance of 36 cm, the detecting spot diameter is 3 cm)
  • Response Time: 500Ms (0.5s)
  • Emissivity: 0.95 (preset for most organic materials, oil paint coated, and oxidized surfaces)
  • Temperature Unit: °C/°F (factory default)
  • Auto Off: 15 seconds of inactivity
  • Working Temperature: 0°C ~ 45°C (-4°F ~ 113°F)
  • Storing Temperature: -10°C ~ 45°C (32°F ~ 113°F)
  • Charging Port: USB Type-C
  • Power Supply: 250 mAh Lithium Battery (built-in)
  • Product Warranty: 1 Year

Usage Features:

  • Starting Up: Press the POWER/SCAN button to turn on the device. It performs a self-check and automatically begins measuring and displaying temperature.
  • Liquid Crystal Display: The screen displays various functional icons including Battery Life, Laser Icon, Backlight Icon, Scan & Hold Status, Temperature Unit, Measured Value, and Maximum Value.
  • Measurement:
    • Single Measurement: Point the laser at the object and press the POWER/SCAN button for at least 0.5 seconds.
    • Continuous Measurement: Press and hold the POWER/SCAN button.
  • Shutdown: The thermometer automatically shuts down after 15 seconds of no operation to conserve battery.
  • Emissivity: The device has a fixed emissivity of 0.95. For shiny or polished metal surfaces, which can cause inaccurate readings, it is recommended to cover the surface with black tape or black oil paint and then measure the surface temperature of the tape/paint once it reaches the object's temperature.
  • Detection Range: The detecting spot size increases with distance. The D:S ratio of 12:1 indicates that at a distance of 36 cm, the thermometer measures the average temperature of a 3 cm diameter spot.
  • Safety Instructions:
    • Avoid directly or indirectly radiating the laser into human eyes.
    • Ensure the thermometer is not damaged and has all plastic parts before use.
    • Replace the battery when the battery icon appears.
    • Do not use the device if it is not working properly, as protective measures may be compromised.
    • Do not use near explosive gases, steam, or dust.
    • Be aware that measured temperatures of high emissivity objects may be lower than their real temperature.
    • Follow instructions to maintain protective measures; otherwise, their efficacy may be lost.
  • Notes on Use:
    • Not recommended for detecting shiny or polished metal surfaces (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum).
    • Inaccurate results for non-ferrous metals, reflective objects, and transparent objects.
    • Cannot measure temperature through glass; it only detects the glass surface temperature.
    • Measurement accuracy can be affected by particles like steam, dust, and smog.
    • Keep away from arc welding machines and induction-type heaters due to electromagnetic fields.
    • Allow 20-30 minutes for the thermometer to reach a steady status after thermal shock (large or sudden environmental temperature changes).
    • Do not place the thermometer near high-temperature objects.

Maintenance Features:

  • Way To Clean Lens:
    • Use clean, compressed air to blow off loose particles.
    • Gently brush off residual chippings with a soft brusher.
    • Carefully scrub the lens with a wet cotton ball.
    • Note: Do not use solvent to clean the laser lens.
  • Way To Clean Shell:
    • Scrub the shell with a soft cloth dipped in soap water.
    • Note: Do not immerse the thermometer in water.
  • Product Warranty: The item carries a 1-year warranty against defects in components or workmanship. Defective products will be repaired or replaced without charge at INKBIRD's discretion.
