Overview

The Inomat M 8 Spray Pump is a peristaltic pump designed for conveying liquids and aggregated materials up to 2mm, including sand finishes, coatings, concrete, and repair products. Its peristaltic technology, similar to a milling operation, conveys material by massaging or pushing, ensuring a smooth flow and preventing damage to the products. This technology is protected by three different patents, allowing for a wide range of Sto products to be used for spray or roller applications.

Function Description:

The Inomat M 8 operates by a peristaltic action, where a rubber diaphragm is massaged against a delivery washer to push material through a hose. This method results in low pressure build-up within the material hose, reducing wear on parts by 30-40% and potentially leading to 20-50% savings in labor. The pump is designed for gentle treatment of materials, is safe to run dry, and is considered dependable. It is light and handy, weighing approximately 57 lbs, operates with 110 V, and is quiet, producing a perfect spray appearance.

Operating the Control Panel:

The pump features a straightforward control panel with "OFF," "FWD" (Forward), and "REV" (Reverse) settings.

  • OFF: The Inomat M 8 is switched off.
  • FWD (Forward): The pump is switched on to convey material through the hose.
  • REV (Reverse): The pump runs backward, which is useful for cleaning the pump or clearing blockages in the material hose. Running in reverse also relieves pressure from the material hose, allowing for safe removal of hoses.

Overload Protection:

The Inomat M 8 includes automatic overload protection to safeguard both the motor and the operator.

Control Safety:

A 24 Volt Circuit Breaker for Remote Control automatically engages if the remote control cable is defective (short-circuit).

Manual Operation and Remote Control Use:

For manual or remote operation, either the remote cable or a dummy plug must be connected. To use remote control, the dummy plug is removed, and the remote control cable is connected. With the Inomat M 8 set to the FWD position, control of the pump's on/off switch is transferred to the remote unit located near the nozzle.

Regulating Operating Pressure:

The operating pressure is adjustable on a scale from 1 (lowest pressure) to 13 (highest pressure). The selected pressure setting determines the flow rate of the material.

Pump Operation:

Before starting, it is crucial to check the voltage; the pump operates with 110 Volts at 60 Hz. A 12-gauge extension cord is recommended for optimal performance.

  • Hopper Connection: The material hopper connects to the M-8 coupling on top of the pump by twisting and locking it into place. The hopper is used for spraying aggregated finishes, coatings, and other Sto products.
  • Siphon Hose: For pumping low-viscosity products from StoSilo barrels or bags, additional equipment with a siphon hose is required.
  • Priming: Material hoses must be primed before spraying Sto products.
  • Starting Procedure: Fill the material hopper first, then turn the switch to the lowest pressure level (1). Ensure the spray nozzle is open before turning on the pump. The dummy plug or remote cable must be connected for the pump to operate.
  • Adjusting Flow: If the pump is not conveying material, increase the pressure setting one step at a time until the desired material flow is achieved.
  • Important Note: Avoid stressing the pump and hoses. Use only the necessary amount of pressure. For best spray appearance, especially with aggregated finishes and coatings, operate at the maximum flow rate with the lowest possible pressure and test on a small area first. All finishes should be floated, and some coatings may require backrolling.

Maintenance Features:

Cleaning of Pump:

  1. Pump all material out of the hopper, then stop the Inomat M 8.
  2. Disconnect and clean the hopper.
  3. Place the cleaned hopper back onto the Inomat M 8.
  4. Flush hoses with water until clear water emerges from the spray nozzle.
  5. Stop pumping and clean the hoses, machine, spray nozzle, and orifice.
    • Note: Ensure the hopper is cleaned first before cleaning the pump and hose.
    • A 24 mm wrench, located on the right side of the pump housing, is provided for maintenance.
    • For cleaning hoses, connect the material hose to a water hose, place a sponge ball inside, and flush with water until clear.
    • After cleaning, it is recommended to check for worn parts.

How to Change Delivery Washer and Membranes:

  1. Remove the cap nut and flat washer from the front side of the pump using the provided 24 mm wrench.
  2. Take off the connection plate (flange).
  3. Ensure the two O-rings do not fall out when removing the connection plate.
  4. Remove the delivery washer.
  5. Carefully lift and pull out the rubber diaphragm using a screwdriver.
  6. Install new parts in reverse order.
    • Note: Lubricate the fingers between the two rubber diaphragms during installation.

Troubleshooting:

  • Inomat M 8 does not pump:
    • Possible causes: Cap nut securing the flange is not tightened enough (no gap between flange and housing), pressure switch adjusted too low, defective rubber diaphragm or delivery washer, missing O-rings at the connection plate, or flat washer placed incorrectly (inside flange instead of outside under cap nut).
  • Pumping power fades:
    • Possible causes: Worn plastic delivery washer (needs replacement), or cracked rubber diaphragm (needs replacement).
  • Overload protection shuts off pump:
    • Possible causes: Material consistency is too thick, or power supply fails (requires 12 ga. cord).
  • 24 V Safety control:
    • If the remote control cable is defective (short-circuit), repair the short and reset the circuit breaker.

Technical Recommendation:

  • Service Manual: After daily cleaning, check the rubber diaphragm and delivery washer for damage and cracks. Replace them if necessary. Before starting, check all electrical plugs and power supply.
  • Replacements and Changes: Only trained operators should conduct replacements and changes of damaged plugs and cables.
  • Lubricant Recommendation: The transmission is filled with CLP ISO VG 220 oil, which is designed to last a lifetime and does not require exchange.
