Overview

This document outlines the release notes for the DJI Inspire 1 Pro, detailing firmware and application updates across various versions from November 2015 to July 2017. These updates focus on enhancing flight safety, improving camera and gimbal performance, and refining user experience through the DJI GO app.

Function Description

The DJI Inspire 1 Pro is a professional-grade aerial platform designed for photography and videography. It integrates an aircraft, a remote controller, and a camera system, all managed through the DJI GO mobile application. The system is engineered to provide stable flight, high-quality imaging, and advanced control features for a range of aerial operations.

Usage Features

Flight Control and Safety:

  • No Fly Zone Management: The system incorporates updated No Fly Zone Management, which helps prevent flights in restricted areas. This feature is crucial for adhering to aviation regulations and ensuring safe operation.
  • Flight Restrictions: For enhanced safety, particularly when the aircraft is not connected to or logged into the DJI GO app (or other compatible apps), flight is restricted to a maximum height of 30 meters and a distance of 50 meters. This prevents uncontrolled flights and minimizes potential risks.
  • Flight Restriction Zone Database: The Flight Restriction Zone database is regularly updated to reflect current regulations and restricted areas, ensuring pilots have the most accurate information for safe flight planning.
  • Return-to-Home (RTH) Altitude: Firmware updates may reset Main Controller Settings, including the RTH Altitude, to factory defaults. Users are advised to note their preferred settings before updating and readjust them afterward to maintain personalized safety parameters.
  • Maximum Flight Distance: Similar to RTH Altitude, the Maximum Flight Distance setting may also be reset to factory defaults during firmware updates, requiring user re-configuration.
  • Ground System Settings: Following a firmware upgrade, Ground System settings will be reset to default, indicated by a beep. Users must restart the Ground System and verify settings to ensure proper functionality.
  • Battery Reliability in Cold Environments: Battery reliability has been improved for operations in cold environments, enhancing the aircraft's performance and safety in diverse weather conditions.
  • Landing Gear Stability: An issue causing landing gears to lower in midair on rare occasions has been fixed, improving the overall reliability and safety of the aircraft during flight.
  • Encryption for Transmission Security: Improved encryption enhances security during data transmission between the aircraft and the remote controller. It is critical that both components are upgraded to compatible versions, as they will not link otherwise.

Camera and Gimbal Performance:

  • Gimbal Stability: Gimbal performance has been optimized to improve stability during flight, resulting in smoother and more professional-looking footage.
  • Gimbal Control: Gimbal control has been optimized for more precise and responsive adjustments.
  • Gimbal Yaw Movement: Gimbal performance has been optimized to provide smoother yaw movement, which is essential for fluid panning shots.
  • Gimbal Misalignment: An issue causing gimbal misalignment when powering on has been fixed, ensuring the camera is correctly oriented from the start of operation.
  • Gimbal Parameters: Gimbal parameters have been optimized for better overall performance, contributing to enhanced stability and control.
  • Image Quality: Image quality has been improved through fine-tuning of sharpness and contrast settings.
  • Video Recording: The system supports shooting 4K video in M exposure mode with D-log color space, and issues related to focus breathing in this mode have been fixed.
  • ISO Settings: The red tone issue in high ISO settings has been fixed, and flickering issues when ISO is above 800 have been resolved, leading to cleaner images in low-light conditions.
  • White Balance: The white balance accuracy in manual mode has been improved, and an issue where white balance tended to be warm in daylight has been fixed, ensuring more natural color reproduction.
  • Autofocus Accuracy: Autofocus accuracy has been improved by enabling the Zooming-AF feature, allowing for sharper images and videos.
  • Sensor Pixel Bit-width: The sensor's pixel bit-width has been increased from 10-bit to 12-bit for various video modes (4KP30/25/24, 2.7KP30/25/24, and 1080P30/25/24), enhancing dynamic range and color depth.
  • Shutter Speed: The shutter speed upper limit has been increased from 1/2 s to 2 s when shooting in 'A' mode, providing greater flexibility in exposure control.
  • DNG Format Support: The DNG format now supports noise profiles and sharpness profiles, offering more control during post-processing.
  • D-CINELIKE Color Space: The D-CINELIKE color space has been optimized, and sharpness settings for D-LOG and D-Cinelike have been decreased, providing a flatter profile suitable for color grading.
  • Tone Curve: The tone curve for photos and video has been fine-tuned, contributing to better overall image aesthetics.
  • 3D Denoising: 3D denoising for night scenes has been tuned down, balancing noise reduction with detail preservation.
  • Zenmuse Z3 Compatibility: The Remote Controller HDMI output format for video recording has been optimized when using the Zenmuse Z3 camera.
  • Zenmuse X5 Camera Support: Specific firmware updates are intended for the Zenmuse X5 camera only. Users are explicitly warned not to mount the Zenmuse X3 for these upgrades.
  • Compatible Lenses: The list of compatible lenses has been updated to include Olympus 25mm/f1.8, 45mm/f1.8, and 14-42mm/f3.5-5.6 EZ, expanding the photographic capabilities of the Inspire 1 Pro. Recommendations for DJI Balancing Rings and filters for various lens models are provided to ensure optimal setup.

Remote Controller and App Integration:

  • Remote Controller Compatibility: The remote controller has been updated to be compatible with the DJI Focus, expanding its utility with professional accessories.
  • DJI GO App Updates: Regular updates to the DJI GO app for both iOS and Android platforms introduce new features and improvements, ensuring seamless interaction with the aircraft.
  • Aircraft and Remote Controller Synchronization: The remote controller is optimized to match the latest aircraft firmware, ensuring proper communication and functionality.
  • Waypoints Feature: The Waypoints feature has been optimized, and the Follow Me feature has been released, providing advanced flight planning and autonomous tracking capabilities. The Waypoints feature is initially supported by the DJI GO app iOS and will be available for Android soon.

Maintenance Features

Firmware Update Process:

  • Update Order: It is crucial to update the aircraft and gimbal before updating the Remote Controller. Failure to follow this order may prevent the aircraft from exiting Transport mode properly.
  • Restart Requirement: After updating both the aircraft and remote controller to the latest firmware, both devices must be restarted. This ensures stable video downlink; otherwise, the video downlink may be unstable.
  • Re-linking Devices: If the aircraft and remote controller become disconnected after an update, they must be re-linked.
  • Battery Firmware: Battery firmware is included in some All-in-One firmware updates. Users must update all Intelligent Flight Batteries using this firmware to ensure full compatibility and performance.
  • Version Display in DJI GO: After a successful upgrade, the aircraft and camera versions should be displayed correctly in the DJI GO app. This display will only be accurate after connecting to the Internet.
  • Downgrade Limitations: Specific firmware versions have limitations on downgrading. For instance, some firmware can only be downgraded to v1.0.0.30 or later, or v1.3.0.60 or later, or v1.8.1.00 or later, or v1.9.1.30 or later. Users should be aware of these restrictions before attempting to revert to older firmware.

System Stability:

  • Overall System Stability: System stability has been optimized across various updates, reducing the likelihood of unexpected behavior or crashes.
  • Vision Positioning System: An issue of temporary Vision Positioning System sensor error on rare occasions for some aircrafts has been fixed, improving the reliability of indoor and low-altitude flight.
  • DNG Corruption: An issue of corrupted DNG due to missing lens profiles has been fixed, ensuring the integrity of raw image files.
