DANGER: To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be taken
since water is employed in the use of aquarium equipment. For each of the
following situations, do not attempt repairs by yourself; return the appliance
to an authorized service facility for service or discard the appliance.
1. If the appliance shows sign of abnormal water leakage, immediately
unplug it from the power source. I
f the appliance falls into the water,
DO NOT reach for it! First unplug it and then retrieve it. If electrical
components of the appliance get wet, immediately unplug it.
2. Carefully examine the appliance after installation. It should not
be plugged in if there is water on parts not intended to be wet.
3. Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it
is malfunctioning or has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
4. To avoid the possibility of
the appliance plug or ou
tlet
getting wet, position aquarium
stand and tank to one side of a
wall-mounted outlet to prevent
water from dripping onto the
plug or outlet. A drip-loop,
shown in the figure below,
should be arranged by the
user for each cord connection
of an aquarium appliance
to an outlet. The drip-loop
is that part of the cord below the level of the outlet, or the
connector if an extension cord is used, to prevent water traveling
along the cord and coming into contact with the outlet.
5. Close supervision is necessary when any
appliance is used by or near children.
6. To avoid injury, do not contact moving parts or hot parts
such as heaters, reflectors, lamp bulbs, and the like.
7. Always unplug an appliance from an outlet when not in use, before
putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. Never yank the cord
to pull the plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
8. Do not use an appliance for anything other than its intended
use. The use of attachments not r
ecommended or sold by the
appliance manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.
9. Do not install or store the appliance where it will be
exposed to weather or temperatures below freezing.
10. Make sure an appliance mounted on a tank is
securely installed before operating it.
11. Read and observe all the important notices on the appliance.
12. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a proper rating
should be used. A cord rated for less amperes or watts than
the appliance rating may
overheat. Care should be taken to
arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.
13. The appliance is intended FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.
14. This appliance was designed for use over a glass aquarium
cover or Panel. DO NOT USE OVER “OPEN” WATER.

Overview

The device described in this manual is a "Life Light," an aquatic lighting system designed to enhance the environment of an aquarium. It is intended for household use and is specifically designed to be used over a glass aquarium cover or panel, not over "open" water. The Life Light is a versatile product, offering multiple installation options to suit various aquarium setups and user preferences, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and optimal lighting for aquatic life.

Function Description

The primary function of the Life Light is to provide illumination for aquariums. It utilizes LED technology to deliver light, which is crucial for the well-being of aquatic plants and animals. The device is designed to be energy-efficient and provides a consistent light source. Its design allows for different light spreads, catering to various aquarium sizes and lighting needs. For instance, it can provide more intensive light for deep and short aquariums or an even spread of light for narrow and long aquariums, optimizing conditions for different types of aquatic ecosystems.

Usage Features

The Life Light offers several flexible usage features, particularly concerning its installation and operation:

  • Installation Options:

    • Hood Location with Adhesive Pads: This method involves attaching double-sided adhesive pads to the flat surface of the LED and then fixing the Life Light to the underside of the aquarium hood. It's crucial that the hood surface is flat, clean, and dry, and the device should not be attached directly to fluorescent lamps or lamp reflectors. This provides a non-invasive installation for hoods.
    • Hood Location with Screws: For a more permanent fixture, the Life Light can be screwed into the underside of the aquarium hood. Users must ensure the hood material is thick enough to prevent screws from protruding through the outer surface. Self-tapping screws are provided for this purpose, utilizing the fixing holes in the LED.
    • Hood Location with Glue: This option allows for gluing the Life Light to the underside of the aquarium hood. Users should select the desired location, mark it, clean the area, and then apply an all-round plastic/wood glue (e.g., a 502 super adhesive glue). It's important to keep the hood away from the aquarium during this process, as the glue can be harmful to fish.
    • Submersed in Aquarium with Suckers: This feature allows the Life Light to be submerged directly into the aquarium. Suckers are attached to brackets, which then fit onto the Life Light. The device can then be placed in the desired location within the aquarium. A key safety note is that the LED push-fit cable socket must not be submerged. Cleaning the glass before applying the suckers optimizes adhesion.
  • Safety Instructions: The manual emphasizes critical safety precautions to ensure safe operation and prevent electrical hazards.

    • Leakage and Submersion: If the appliance shows signs of abnormal water leakage, it must be immediately unplugged. If it falls into water, users are instructed not to reach for it until it's unplugged first. Any wet electrical components require immediate unplugging.
    • Pre-Installation Check: Before plugging in, the appliance must be carefully examined to ensure no water is on parts not intended to be wet.
    • Damage Check: The device should not be operated if it has a damaged cord or plug, is malfunctioning, or has been dropped or damaged.
    • Drip-Loop Arrangement: To prevent water from dripping onto the plug or outlet, a "drip-loop" must be arranged for each cord connection. This involves positioning the aquarium stand and tank to one side of a wall-mounted outlet, ensuring the cord hangs below the outlet level to prevent water from traveling along the cord to the outlet.
    • Child Supervision: Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
    • Contact with Hot/Moving Parts: Users should avoid contact with moving or hot parts like heaters, reflectors, or lamp bulbs to prevent injury.
    • Unplugging: The appliance should always be unplugged when not in use, before cleaning, or when putting on or taking off parts. Users should grasp the plug, not the cord, to disconnect.
    • Intended Use: The device is strictly for its intended purpose. Using unauthorized attachments is discouraged as it may cause unsafe conditions.
    • Environmental Conditions: The appliance should not be installed or stored where it will be exposed to weather or freezing temperatures.
    • Secure Mounting: If mounted on a tank, the appliance must be securely installed before operation.
    • Important Notices: Users are advised to read and observe all important notices on the appliance.
    • Extension Cords: If an extension cord is necessary, it must have a proper rating (amperes or watts) to prevent overheating. The cord should be arranged to prevent tripping or pulling.
    • Household Use: The appliance is intended solely for household use.
    • Aquarium Cover Use: Designed for use over a glass aquarium cover or panel, not "open" water.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Life Light:

  • Cleaning: To clean the Life Light, it should first be switched off and removed from its brackets. Any dirt or salt mineral deposits can be wiped off with a damp cloth. It is important not to use cleaning agents that could enter the aquarium and harm livestock.
  • No Dismantling: Users are explicitly warned not to attempt to dismantle the product beyond the cleaning instructions, as this voids the warranty.
  • Manual Adherence: To keep the product in good condition, users must carefully read and follow the manual before and during operation.
  • Adapter Use: Only the adapter supplied with the product should be used.
  • Cord Handling: The power cord should not be pulled or twisted, nor should the product be moved by holding the power cord alone, as this can damage the cord.
  • Power Disconnection: Always ensure the power is disconnected before installing or cleaning the device.

The Life Light is a comprehensive lighting solution for aquariums, designed with user convenience, safety, and the well-being of aquatic life in mind. Its robust design and clear instructions aim to provide a reliable and long-lasting product experience.
