Compatibility with 250MB and 100MB Zip Disks
The Zip 750MB drive features backward compatibility that allows you to read and write to 750MB and 250MB Zip
disks, and read only from 100MB Zip disks. Performance when writing to a 250MB Zip disk is significantly reduced,
because of the higher capacity of the Zip 750MB drive. To maximize performance of your Zip 750MB drive, you
should use 750MB Zip disks.
Here are some important things to know about using 750MB, 250MB and 100MB Zip disks and drives
together:
1.
If the Zip drive appears to hang when you are writing to a 750MB or 250MB Zip disk, verify that the drive is
operating correctly by checking that the green activity light is blinking randomly. (A slow, steady blink may
indicate a problem with the drive. If there is a slow, steady blink, try pushing the disk eject button to eject the
disk, then reinserting it.)
2.
You can use the Short Format option if you need to format a 750MB or 250MB Zip disk; or the Long Format
option on 750MB Zip disks, in the Zip 750MB drive.
NOTE: The 750MB Zip drive will not support the Short Format option for 100MB Zip disks or the Long
Format option for 100MB or 250MB Zip disks.
3.
A 750MB Zip disk cannot be used in a Zip 250MB or Zip 100MB drive; the Zip 250MB or Zip 100MB drive
will automatically eject a 750MB disk.
4.
You can read and copy files from a 100MB Zip disk, but you can't write to the disk in a Zip 750MB drive.
Without IomegaWare Installed
Performing any function besides reading the 100MB Zip disk will cause the operating system to present a
warning dialog box stating the operation was not successful.
With IomegaWare Installed
When you insert a 100MB Zip disk into the Zip 750MB drive you will be warned that you cannot write
to the disk. The warning dialog box will have a "Don't remind me again" check box that can be turned
off, otherwise this warning will be displayed each time you insert a 100MB Zip disk.
If you try to copy to, move, rename or delete items from the 100MB Zip disk you will receive a
warning message that states the operation was not successful.
If you try to create a shortcut, file or folder, change the volume information or disk attributes on a
100MB Zip disk, an operating system dialog error will state the disk is write-protected. This write
protection can't be removed.
5.
If you encounter any problems using 250MB or 100MB Zip disks in your Zip 750MB drive, go to the support
site at: www.iomega.com/support.

Disconnecting the Zip 750MB Drive
When you shut down your system, you may want to disconnect power to the Zip drive. It will not harm the drive to
leave it powered up. Disconnecting the power supply from the drive is an easy way to power down the Zip drive.
