3.5 Polarization Extinction Ratio (PER)
The modulator’s best electro-optical efficiency is obtained when the light is linearly polarized along
the Z axis of the crystal (TM-polarized light for Z-cut or TE-polarized light for X-cut). Therefore, it
means that a majority of the integrated optical components come with polarization maintaining
(PM) fibers (PANDA type).
