Overview

The IXL Tastic Ovation is a multi-functional bathroom appliance designed to provide heating, lighting, and ventilation. It integrates an 800W tungsten halogen heat lamp, three 7W GU10 frosted LED globes, and a 180mm exhaust fan.

Function Description

The primary function of the Tastic Ovation is to offer a comprehensive bathroom climate and lighting solution. The 800W tungsten halogen heat lamp provides instantaneous radiant heat, specifically designed to warm the body directly rather than the entire room. This targeted heating approach is efficient, concentrating warmth for maximum effectiveness, especially when standing directly under the lamp. The heat lamp is half-coated with a white reflector to optimize heat dispersion.

For lighting, the appliance features three frosted LED globes that deliver diffused light, creating a soothing ambiance in the bathroom without compromising on lighting quality. An intelligent control system ensures the longevity of the LED globes: they will not operate while the heat lamp is switched on. If the heat lamp is activated while the LEDs are on, the LEDs will automatically turn off and then turn back on once the heat lamp is deactivated.

The ventilation component consists of a high-performance centrifugal fan designed to extract steam and moisture from the bathroom and vent it directly outside. Effective ventilation relies on adequate airflow into the bathroom, which can be achieved through open windows, vents, or gaps under doors. The ideal airflow path should pass over the steam source. For bathrooms with high ceilings, larger than average dimensions, or open showers, additional ventilation may be required. The fan's performance is influenced by factors such as cross-ventilation, room air flow, and climate. In cooler climates, increased moisture and condensation may be observed during hot showers, suggesting a need for improved natural ventilation or an additional exhaust fan.

The Tastic Ovation also incorporates safety features to prevent overheating. If the heat lamp is operating and the fan is off, a built-in thermal switch will automatically activate the fan when the internal temperature reaches 65°C to cool the unit. Once the temperature drops, the fan will switch off. Furthermore, an over-temperature switch (PTCR) will cut off power to the unit if the temperature reaches 80°C. This PTCR can be reset by turning off power at the isolating switch and allowing the unit to cool for 10-15 minutes. If the PTCR activates, it indicates abnormal operation, and the service center should be contacted. To avoid inadvertent resetting of the thermal cut-out, the appliance should not be supplied through an external switching device like a timer or connected to a circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the utility.

Usage Features

The Tastic Ovation is designed for horizontal installation in the ceiling. It is crucial that the appliance is not covered with insulating material or similar materials to prevent overheating. The lowest point of the appliance must be at least 2.2 meters from the floor, and it should not be mounted immediately below a socket outlet. Direct eye contact with the heat lamps when in use should be avoided, as Tastic products are not tanning lamps. The appliance should always be operated with the fascia or glass panels in position.

The wall switch, supplied with the unit, controls the various functions. The wall switch mechanisms can be rotated by a qualified electrical tradesperson, and alternative switch mechanisms can be used by an authorized installer.

For optimal performance, the Tastic Ovation is manufactured to suit bathroom ceiling heights from 2.2m. While the unit is designed to remove moisture and steam, factors like room size, ceiling height, and shower type can influence its effectiveness. For larger or high-ceiling bathrooms, additional ventilation may be beneficial.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the quality, functionality, and longevity of the Tastic Ovation. It is recommended that the appliance body, fascia, and lamps be checked and cleaned every two years.

Removing and Replacing the Glass Shield:

  1. Turn off the heat lamp and allow it to cool for at least 5 minutes. For added safety, switch off the power at the isolating switch.
  2. Position a sturdy ladder to safely reach the unit.
  3. Gently press the glass shield (near the air inlet) 20mm towards the ceiling and slide it towards the air inlet with one hand.
  4. Hold the other end of the shield with your other hand to catch it as it drops.
  5. If the shield chips, cracks, or breaks, it must be replaced with an IXL Tastic Ovation® Tempered Glass Shield (Part 12200), not normal household glass.

Replacing the Heat Lamp:

  1. Ensure the heat lamp has cooled and power is off.
  2. Gently grasp the heat lamp and push it towards one socket.
  3. Once free from one socket, carefully pull the heat lamp down.
  4. Dispose of the old heat lamp like a normal incandescent light globe (unbroken, wrapped in paper or cloth).
  5. When fitting a new heat lamp, handle it with a soft, dry, clean, lint-free cloth or paper to avoid transferring natural skin oils and salts, which can damage halogen lamps and shorten their life. If skin touches the lamp, wipe it gently.
  6. Ensure the white reflector side of the heat lamp faces the ceiling when grasping it to maintain performance.
  7. Fit one end of the new heat lamp into a socket, then gently push it away to fit the other end into its socket.
  8. Gently rotate the heat lamp to ensure it is correctly seated.
  9. Replace the glass shield by reversing the removal steps.
  10. Switch the power on and test the heat lamp.

Replacing the LED Globes:

  1. It is recommended to use authentic IXL GU10 type frosted LED globes. The maximum allowable total power for all LEDs combined is 50W.
  2. Position a sturdy ladder and ensure power is off.
  3. Gently pull down the fascia from the unit. The LED globes are wired to the unit, so carefully lower the fascia.
  4. The LED lights are clipped to the fascia by two small retention tabs. Push the LEDs sideways to unclip them from the fascia.
  5. Disconnect the faulty LED from the globe holder by twisting and removing it from the socket.
  6. Connect the new LED to the globe holder.
  7. Insert the LED back into the fascia by locating it under the tab on one side and pressing firmly to secure the tab on the other side.
  8. Replace the fascia on the Tastic and press up firmly to engage all mounting clips, ensuring it is fully engaged and sitting on the ceiling.

Cleaning:

To clean the fascia and air inlet, use a damp cloth with liquid glass cleaner. Always ensure the unit is turned off and all lamps have cooled before cleaning.

General Notes:

The Tastic Ovation is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or instructed by a responsible person. Young children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance. To prevent overheating, no object should be placed within 1 meter of the heat lamps. Curtains or combustible materials may ignite if in contact or close proximity with the heater. Regulations concerning the discharge of air must be fulfilled.
