This document is an installation manual for JA Solar PV Modules, specifically regular single-glass modules. It provides essential information for the electrical and mechanical installation, as well as safety guidelines.
Function Description:
JA Solar PV Modules are designed to convert sunlight into DC electricity for terrestrial applications. They are intended for use in solar photovoltaic systems, operating at greater than 50V DC or 240W, and are qualified for safety through IEC 61730-1 and IEC 61730-2, meeting requirements for safety class II equipment. The modules are designed to be interconnected in series and/or parallel to form a PV system. They feature junction boxes with pre-wired single-conductor cables (one positive, one negative) and IP67 (or IP68) rated connectors for easy series connection. Bypass diodes are integrated into the junction boxes, wired in parallel with the PV cell strings, to mitigate performance losses and heating in cases of partial shading. The modules are constructed with an anodic oxidized aluminum frame to resist corrosion, which also serves as a grounding point to prevent thunder and electrical shock.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Product Type: Regular Single-glass Modules.
- Electrical Characteristics: Pmax within +/- 3%, Voc within +/-3%, and Isc within +/-4% of tolerance values at Standard Test Conditions (1000W/m² Irradiance, 25°C Cell Temperature, 1.5 Air Mass).
- System Voltage: Maximum system voltage is DC 1000V/1500V, depending on the safety appraisal of IEC61730.
- Over-current Protection: An appropriately rated over-current protection device is required if reverse current could exceed the maximum fuse rating of the modules. Required for each series string if more than two series strings are connected in parallel.
- Cable Specifications: Minimum wire size of 4mm² (12AWG), sunlight resistant, qualified for direct current (DC) wiring in PV systems. Temperature rating: -40°C to +90°C. Minimum cable bending radius: 38.4mm.
- Connector Protection: IP67 (or IP68) protection grade.
- Mechanical Load Capacity: Certified for a maximum static load on the back side of 2400 Pa (wind load) and a maximum static load on the front side of either 2400 Pa or 5400 Pa (wind and snow load), depending on the module type.
- Grounding: Grounding hole with 4.2 mm diameter on the edge side of the back frame. Recommended torque for grounding bolt: 2.3 N.m. A 12 AWG copper wire can be used as the equipment grounding conductor.
- Frame Material: Anodic oxidized aluminum.
- Thermal Expansion: Minimum distance of 10mm between neighboring frames to accommodate linear thermal expansion.
- Operating Temperature: Recommended ambient temperature between -40°C (-40°F) to 40°C (104°F). Limit operating temperature between -40°C (-40°F) and 85°C (185°F).
- Fire Safety: In accordance with IEC 61730-2 standard. For roof installations, modules should be mounted over a fire-resistant covering with adequate ventilation.
- Module Dimensions (L×W×H): Varies by module type, examples include 1650x991x35mm, 1960x991x40mm, 1678×991×35mm, 2000×991×40mm, 1657×996×35mm, 1979×996×40/35mm, 1689×996×35mm, 1638×1084×35mm, 1644×1204×40mm, 2015×996×40/35mm, 1852×996×35mm, 2180×996×40mm, 1776×1052×35/1769×1052×35mm, 2120×1052×40/2112×1052×35mm, 1722×1134×30mm, 2094×1134×35mm, 2279×1134×35/2278×1134×35mm, 1960×996×30mm, and 2465×1134×35mm.
Usage Features:
- Installation Flexibility: Modules can be mounted in landscape or portrait orientation. They can be installed using mounting holes (bolted to support structures) or specialized clamps.
- Environmental Suitability: Designed for terrestrial applications. Can be installed at seaside locations (50m to 500m from the sea) with corrosion protection measures. Not suitable for extreme areas, marine, or vehicle applications without specific assessment.
- Tilt Angle: Recommended tilt angle of at least 10 degrees to facilitate dust wash-off by rain. Optimal power output when facing the sun directly (typically south in the northern hemisphere, north in the southern hemisphere).
- Shading Tolerance: Bypass diodes help limit heating and performance loss from partial shading. However, modules should be installed in a location with no shading throughout the year.
- Safety Features: Designed to prevent electrical shock and burns. Requires insulated tools and gloves when working in sunlight. Modules can be rendered inoperative by covering their front surface.
- System Integration: Compatible with anti-PID inverters for optimal power output.
Maintenance Features:
- Regular Inspection: Required to perform regular inspection and maintenance, especially within warranty scope. Users must report damages within 2 weeks.
- Visual Inspection: Check for broken glass, corrosion along cell bus-bars (indicating dampness infiltration), and burning vestiges on the backsheet.
- Connector and Cable Inspection: Every 6 months, check the encapsulation of the connector with the cable and the sealing gel of the junction box for cracks or crevices.
- Cleaning: Dust accumulation can reduce power output. Front substrate can be cleaned with rain. For manual cleaning, use a wet sponge or soft cloth. Avoid cleaning agents containing acid or alkali. Refer to the "cleaning manual" for specific contents.
- Damage Handling: If glass or other material is damaged, wear personal protection equipment and separate the module from the circuit. Scrapped modules must be recovered and disposed of by a qualified institution.
- Professional Maintenance: In case of suspected diode failure, installers or maintenance providers should contact JA Solar. Do not attempt to open the junction box.
