This document provides a comprehensive guide for the Jamo D 570 and D 590 loudspeakers, covering their design, setup, connection, maintenance, and warranty information.
The Jamo D 5 series loudspeakers are designed for superior sound quality, finish, and overall performance. Their design prioritizes both aesthetics and acoustic performance. A key feature is the large cabinet, which, despite its size, avoids appearing bulky and effectively dampens "standing waves." The considerable depth of the cabinet ensures that the treble and mid-range units are positioned far enough from the back wall to prevent unwanted reflections.
The cabinet construction utilizes a unique sandwich design, combining an MDF board with longitudinal grooves and a fiber board. After grooving, the MDF board is shaped into an arc, and the two boards are glued together. This process results in an extremely rigid, resonance-poor board that prevents undesirable cabinet vibrations from "coloring" the sound. The front grille is made from a thin MDF board frame covered with fabric. The close contact between the loudspeaker and the front frame, along with the flat front frame, minimizes diffraction (coloring/distortion, particularly in the upper midrange and treble) caused by reflections from the loudspeaker front's irregularities.
The loudspeakers incorporate advanced drive units. The treble is handled by a soft dome tweeter, which is oil-cooled and features a voice coil wound with thermosetting wire on an aluminum voice coil former, ensuring high power handling. The midrange units utilize a specially woven fiberglass diaphragm. This unique weave not only contributes to the exclusive design but also ensures uniform material thickness across the entire diaphragm.
A loudspeaker diaphragm functions like a piston, and to meet the demanding stretch and compression properties required, the composite fiber material is composed of four different types of glass treated with a tough-hardening resin. This construction results in a light, rigid cone with excellent internal damping. Combined with a natural rubber suspension that effectively prevents vibrations from traveling back to the diaphragm, the system achieves a well-controlled diaphragm that operates without break-ups within its working range.
The unit's basket is made from injection-molded carbon fiber reinforced ABS. Using a non-magnetic material like ABS ensures that the magnetic force remains concentrated around the voice coil, rather than spreading into the basket. This design increases the unit's efficiency and allows the loudspeaker to be placed closer to a TV set without the risk of image discoloration. Compared to conventional metal baskets, the acoustic properties are significantly improved due to the higher internal damping of the ABS material. Each unit features a large magnet and a heavy voice coil with a 25mm diameter. These attributes contribute to an open, precise sound reproduction with excellent attack. The design also minimizes distortion and allows for excellent reproduction across a wide frequency area. Phase errors in the critical midrange area are eliminated since this entire range is reproduced by a single unit.
In the Jamo D 5 series, the midrange units cover a range from approximately 150 to 3,000 Hz. In the D 570 and D 590 models, two midrange units are used to control sound scatter. This configuration provides higher horizontal scatter, making the listening position less critical, and reduced vertical scatter, minimizing reflections from the floor and ceiling. The D 570 and D 590 models feature specially developed long-throw woofers mounted at the bottom of the cabinets. This woofer placement ensures excellent coupling to the room, resulting in a very smooth frequency response and an uncritical setup of the speakers.
Most loudspeakers on the market require placement at least 0.5 - 1 meter from the back wall for correct bass frequency response and to prevent reflections in the upper tone ranges. However, the Jamo D 5 series is designed with the understanding that users may prefer to place loudspeakers closer to the back wall. The bass reproduction has been tuned for placement near the back wall, and the deep cabinet design prevents reflections in the upper tone ranges. The high, narrow cabinet design also makes it easy to integrate into a living room.
It is recommended to use the provided spikes. These ensure that the loudspeaker stands steadily with good mechanical contact to the base, regardless of the surface. If the base is hard (e.g., wood or stone), the provided rubber feet may be mounted instead. Note: Once spikes are mounted, the loudspeaker should never be pulled or pushed across the floor, as this can damage carpets or floor tiles.
The loudspeakers in the Jamo D 5 line are equipped with gold-plated screw terminals that can accommodate very heavy stripped wire. Consult your local Jamo dealer for advice on cable selection. Generally, longer cables require better quality to avoid signal loss. For optimal sound reproduction, keep cables as short as possible and ensure that the cables connecting the speakers are of the same length.
If you intend to connect each loudspeaker with a single cable, the "bridges" provided must remain mounted between the two terminal sets. The loudspeaker is supplied with these "bridges" mounted for single wiring.
If bi-wiring is used, the "bridges" between the two terminal sets must be removed. At the amplifier, the cables can be joined into one set of output terminals, or, if the amplifier has two sets of output terminals, you can connect one cable to terminal set "A" and the other cable to terminal set "B." You may also use two power amplifiers (bi-amping). Contact your Jamo dealer for further information on bi-amping.
All Jamo loudspeakers are manufactured using modern, thoroughly tested materials that generally require minimal maintenance. Regular vacuuming or wiping with a soft, dry cloth is usually sufficient. If the loudspeakers become greasy, clean them with a cloth moistened with water or, if necessary, a mild detergent.
Note: Never use scouring powders, benzine, spirit, or other solvents to clean the loudspeakers, as these can damage the finish.
