7. ROI Gain Adjustment (optional)
a) Confirm that port and starboard operations of the FFU input device
correspond to port and starboard indication on the ROI. If this is not the
case, a reverse polarity condition exists at the indicator. To correct for
reverse polarity, turn off HPU and DC power supply, then refer to the
indicator owner’s manual and reverse +ROI and -ROI connections.
b) With the FFU input device at hard over adjust the ROI GAIN trim pot in
the SCA until the ROI displays the desired internal limit angle.
8. Setting Full Follow-Up Performance
a) Center the FFU input device.
b) Place NFU/FFU switch in the FFU position. If optional NFU input device
is not installed then turn on HPU.
c) Using the FFU input device give a steering command close to hard over
port and observe the rudder movement. Note if the rudder reaches its
final angle by smoothly decelerating or by stopping abruptly.
d) Using the FFU input device give a steering command close to hard over
starboard and observe the rudder movement. Note if the rudder reaches
its final angle by smoothly decelerating or by stopping abruptly.
e) If deceleration is not noted in step (c) or (d) turn DEADBAND trim pot one
turn CW and repeat steps (c) & (d).
f) Insert the balance jumper between terminals 1 & 2.
g) Repeat procedures in steps (c) & (d) and determine if this jumper position
has reversed the conditions noted in steps (c) & (d). If it has then go to
step (i).
h) Insert the balance jumper between terminals 2 & 3.
i) Give FFU steering commands to port and starboard and observe the
rudder movement.
j) Turn the DEADBAND trim pot CW until the direction of rudder movement
with deceleration is observed to begin decelerating about 5° before its
final angle.
k) Give FFU steering commands to port and starboard and observe the
rudder movement.
l) Adjust the BALANCE trim pot until it is observed that the same amount of
deceleration occurs during both port and starboard turns.
m) If more deceleration is desired turn the DEADBAND trim pot ½ turn CW
and repeat balance adjustment from step (k). It is suggested that 5° of
deceleration on both sides provides best performance.
n) Make small adjustments of the rudder command and observe the rudder
to ensure that the rudder responds to small changes in the input
command without overshooting. If overshooting is noticed turn
DEADBAND trim pot ½ turn CW and repeat balance adjustment from
step (k).
