Overview

The Jaybird Tarah is a pair of essential performance run wireless earbuds designed for active individuals. These earbuds are built to withstand sweat and water, making them suitable for various sports and outdoor adventures. They offer a secure and comfortable sport fit, ensuring they stay in place during your activities.

Function Description:

The Jaybird Tarah earbuds are designed for listening to music and making calls wirelessly. They connect to your audio device via Bluetooth, allowing for a cable-free experience. The earbuds feature an in-line remote with a middle button and volume controls, which serve multiple functions for playback, calls, and device control.

Usage Features:

Charging and Battery Status:

To charge the Tarah earbuds, use the included USB charging cradle. Plug the cradle into any 5V 500mA USB power source. The white LED on the earbuds will pulse during charging and turn solid white when fully charged. A full charge takes approximately 2 hours and provides up to 6 hours of playtime. For quick charging, 10 minutes of charge can provide 1 hour of playtime. The earbuds will announce the battery level (rounded to the nearest 20%) when turned on. The Jaybird app and your phone will also display the battery level, with the app showing it to within 1%.

Pairing:

  1. Turn on Bluetooth: On your audio device, ensure Bluetooth is turned on and actively searching for devices.
  2. Enter Pairing Mode: With the Tarah earbuds turned off, press and hold the Middle Button until the LED blinks white. You will hear the "READY TO PAIR. DOWNLOAD THE JAYBIRD APP FOR AN ASSISTED SETUP" voice prompt.
  3. Select Device: In the list of discovered devices on your audio device, select "Jaybird Tarah."
  4. Confirmation: Once connected, you will hear the "Connected" voice prompt, indicating the earbuds are ready for use.
    • Troubleshooting Pairing: If pairing is unsuccessful, turn off the earbuds by pressing the Middle Button until the red LED illuminates and you hear a "Power off" tone. Then, repeat the pairing steps. When turned on for the first time or after a reset, the Tarah earbuds automatically enter pairing mode.

Finding Your Perfect Fit:

The Tarah earbuds come with silicone eargels in three sizes (1, 2, 3) to ensure a secure and comfortable fit.

  1. Initial Fit: Try the pre-installed size 2 eargels first. Place them firmly within your ears as shown in the illustration.
  2. Adjusting Eargel Size: If the earbuds are not comfortable, feel loose, or too tight, try alternative eargel sizes (1 or 3). It's common to use different sized eargels in each ear. Be patient, as finding the perfect fit may take some time.
  3. Speed Cinch: The speed cinch helps keep the cord off your neck and shoulders, which is ideal for sports. Grab the cord beneath the cinch with one hand and adjust the cinch up or down with your other hand until you find a snug cord length with no excess slack.
  4. Shirt Clip: Use the included shirt clip to secure the Tarah earbuds to the back of your shirt. Remove the cinch before using the shirt clip. Attach the shirt clip to your shirt as illustrated.

Button Functionality:

The in-line remote has a Middle Button and Volume +/- buttons.

  • Turning On/Off:

    • ON: Press and hold the Middle Button until you hear an ascending "Power on" tone and the LED turns solid white.
    • OFF: Press and hold the Middle Button until you hear a descending "Power off" tone and the LED illuminates red before turning off.
  • Playing Music:

    • Play/Pause: Single press and release the Middle Button.
    • Skip Song (Forward): Long press the Vol. + Button.
    • Go Backwards: Long press the Vol. – Button.
    • Change Volume: Single press the Vol. + or Vol. – Button.
    • Activate Voice Assistant (Siri or Google Now): Double press the Middle Button.
  • Phone Calls:

    • Accept/End Call: Single press the Middle Button.
    • Decline Call: Double press the Middle Button.
    • Change Volume: Single press the Vol. + or Vol. – Button.

The Jaybird App:

The Jaybird App allows you to customize the sound profile of your Tarah earbuds. You can create custom EQ settings to tailor the audio to your preferences. The app also features "Find My Buds" to help locate lost earbuds. Connect your earbuds to the app to check for and install firmware updates. Your custom sound settings are saved directly on the earbuds, so they will apply to any device you use.

Multipoint Connection:

Multipoint allows you to connect your Tarah earbuds to two devices simultaneously (e.g., a laptop and a mobile phone). This means you can listen to music on your laptop and still accept an incoming call on your phone.

  1. Ensure your earbuds are up to date via the Jaybird app.
  2. Pair and connect your Tarah earbuds to both devices (refer to pairing instructions on pages 5-6).
  3. Make sure only the two desired devices are turned on and in proximity. The Tarah can remember up to eight paired Bluetooth devices and actively connect to two at a time.

Smartwatch Compatibility:

You can sync music to your smartwatch and pair your Tarah earbuds directly to it, allowing you to leave your phone at home during workouts. Refer to your smartwatch's user manual for Bluetooth pairing instructions.

Maintenance Features:

Troubleshooting (Reset Procedures):

  • Soft Reset: If your earbuds are unresponsive, place them in the charger cradle and connect the USB charging cradle to a power source. This action will turn off the earbuds and perform a soft reset.

  • Factory Reset: If a soft reset doesn't resolve the issue, a factory reset can restore the earbuds to their original settings.

    1. Forget Device: Before starting, "FORGET" or "REMOVE" your Tarah device from your audio device's Bluetooth list.
    2. Enter Pairing Mode: With the earbuds off, press and hold the Middle Button until the earbuds turn off. Then, press and hold the Middle Button for 5 seconds until the white LED starts blinking.
    3. Perform Reset: While the white LED is blinking, press the Middle Button twice.
    4. Confirmation: The red LED will briefly illuminate, then the white LED will start blinking again. Your earbuds are now reset and ready to pair. Go to your audio device's Bluetooth menu and select Tarah to re-pair.

Waterproof and Cleaning:

The Jaybird Tarah earbuds have an IPX7 waterproof rating, making them resistant to rain, mud, and outdoor adventures. However, they are not designed for swimming, showering, or prolonged exposure to pool or ocean water. If exposed to salted or chlorinated water, rinse them gently with fresh water and air dry before use. The charging cradle is not water resistant, so ensure your headphones are completely dry before charging.

Eargel Cleaning:

Regularly clean the eargels to remove dirt and wax buildup for safe and hygienic use.

  1. Remove Eargels: Firmly grip the eargel with one hand and the earbud with the other, then carefully remove the eargel from the earbud.
  2. Clean Eargels: Use warm water and mild soap on a damp cloth to remove dirt and earwax. Do NOT use harsh cleaning agents.
  3. Rinse and Dry: Rinse and completely dry your eargel before reattaching them to the earbuds.
  4. Reattach Eargels: Carefully push the eargel back onto the earbuds.

General Care:

Clean the eargels regularly. To clean the earbuds themselves, gently wipe away dust and oil with a dry cloth, and/or use warm water and mild soap to remove buildup. Rinse and completely dry before reattaching eargels. Before charging, always ensure the earbuds are completely dry of sweat and water.

Important Safety Notes:

Due to their isolating characteristics, do not use these headphones while driving, riding a bike, or in situations where vehicular traffic is present or where failure to hear surrounding sounds could be dangerous. Using these headphones at excessive volumes may cause permanent hearing damage. Always turn the volume down before use. Exercise caution when inserting objects into the ear canal, and use at your own risk. Do not wear the device while it is connected to a power source driven from main 110V or 220V lines. Avoid excessive volume levels and prolonged periods of listening to prevent permanent hearing disability.
