Overview

The Hoyer Advance Digital Scale is a patient handling accessory designed to integrate with Hoyer Advance lifters, specifically models HOY-ADVANCE-E and HOY-ADVANCE-H. This digital scale, with model number HOY-ADV-6PTWSC, allows for the accurate weighing of patients during transfers, enhancing patient care and monitoring.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Hoyer Advance Digital Scale is to provide a precise measurement of a patient's weight while they are being lifted by a Hoyer Advance lifter. It is designed to be attached to a 6-point spreader bar, which then connects to the lift boom. The scale system includes a spreader bar with the integrated scale assembly and a quick release pin for secure attachment. Once installed, the scale allows caregivers to obtain weight readings in either pounds (Lb) or kilograms (Kg) by pressing a dedicated switch. The "ZERO" button enables the caregiver to tare the scale, ensuring that only the patient's weight is measured, excluding the weight of the sling. The digital display shows the weight, and an "On" button activates the display and stabilizes the reading. To conserve battery life, the display automatically turns off after 60 seconds if no activity is detected. The scale is intended to be used by trained personnel, and proper installation and operation are crucial for patient safety and accurate readings.

  • On-Demand Reading: The "On" button activates the display and stabilizes the weight reading once the patient's motion has stabilized during a lift.
  • Battery Indicator: A "B" symbol on the display indicates when the battery needs to be replaced, providing a clear warning to the caregiver.
  • Patient Positioning: The manual emphasizes the importance of properly positioning the patient in the sling before lifting and reattaching the sling to the spreader bar.

It also warns against exceeding the maximum weight capacity of the lifter and scale.
  • Spreader Bar Support: During removal or installation, the 6-point spreader bar should be supported to prevent unexpected falling.
  • Secure Connection: The quick release pin sleeve and barbed quick release pin are designed to ensure a secure connection to the lift boom, with an audible "clicks" indicating proper engagement.
  • Resetting Scale: It is crucial to reset the scale to "Zero" whenever changes are made to the sling selection to maintain accuracy.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: The scale is powered by a 9-volt battery, which can be easily replaced. To replace the battery, the black pad on the back of the unit is pushed to the left, allowing the battery holder to slide out. The old battery is removed, a new one is inserted, and the holder is pushed back into the scale.
  • Calibration and Maintenance: Calibration and maintenance should only be performed by trained personnel. The manual advises contacting Customer Service for calibration instructions.
  • No User-Serviceable Parts (Other than Battery): The Hoyerpro+ Digital Scale contains no serviceable parts other than the battery. Unauthorized tampering with the scale will void all warranties.
  • Warning Against Disassembly: A critical warning states not to attempt to remove the Hoyerpro+ Digital Scale from the 6-point spreader bar, as tampering with the scale and spreader bar connection may result in serious injury to the patient and/or caregiver.
  • Sling Inspection: The manual advises regularly inspecting slings for tears, frayed areas, or broken slings, and to destroy and discard old and unusable slings to prevent injury or death.
  • Warranty: The Oxford/Hoyer Cradle is warranted to be free of manufacturing defects for one year from the date of original consumer purchase. For warranty service, customers are directed to call 800.826.0270. This warranty is in place of any other warranty, express or implied, including merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, if allowed by law.
