Overview

The Johny AK/8-4 is a traditional coffee maker designed for brewing Cezve/Ibrik coffee, also known as Turkish coffee. It operates by heating sand, which in turn heats the coffee pot, ensuring a traditional brewing method that aims for full aroma and excellent taste. The device is manufactured by Kiosidis Private Company P.C., a Greek company specializing in commercial bar appliances, and adheres to ISO 9001 quality standards.

Function Description:

The core function of the Johny AK/8-4 is to prepare traditional Cezve/Ibrik coffee. This is achieved through a unique sand-heating method. Users place a coffee pot (cezve/ibrik) containing water, finely ground coffee, and sugar directly into hot sand. The sand, heated by an underlying hot plate, provides even and consistent heat to the pot. The user is instructed to continually move the pot in small circles within the sand, ensuring constant contact with the hot plate for optimal brewing. This method is intended to replicate the traditional way of making Turkish coffee, which is known for its rich flavor and foamy top.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: AK/8-4
  • Voltage: 220-240V
  • Power: 1500W
  • Frequency: 50/60Hz
  • Net Weight: 6.490 kg
  • Gross Weight: 7.285 kg
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 290 mm x 290 mm x 240 mm

These specifications indicate a robust and relatively compact appliance suitable for commercial or home use where traditional coffee preparation is desired. The 1500W power rating suggests efficient heating of the sand.

Usage Features:

  • Setup: The appliance should be placed on a level, robust, and dry counter, away from water and oil. After placement, sand (supplied with the device) is poured onto the heating plate and spread evenly.
  • Power Connection: It connects to the mains using a "Schuko" plug. The manual explicitly warns against using cord extensions or plug converters and emphasizes the need for earthing.
  • Operation: To turn on, the simmerstat switch should be set to position "7," which is recommended for efficient performance.
  • Heating Time: The appliance requires approximately 20 minutes to reach its optimal operating temperature.
  • Brewing Process: The coffee pot, filled with ingredients, is submerged deep into the hot sand, ensuring its bottom touches the hot plate. Continuous small circular movements of the pot in the sand, maintaining contact with the hot plate, are crucial for proper brewing.
  • Indicator Lamp: An indicating lamp remains continuously on during operation and turns off only when the temperature regulator is set to "0."
  • Safety Warnings: The external surface of the appliance becomes hot during operation. Users are warned that the sand remains hot for many hours after the appliance is switched off. It is also explicitly stated never to use the coffee maker with wet hands.
  • Shut Down: At the end of each working day, the appliance should be turned off by setting the switch to "0." Unplugging the appliance is also recommended.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Cleaning: The manual recommends cleaning the appliance every day. Before cleaning, the coffee maker must be disconnected from the main power supply and allowed to cool down completely.
  • Cleaning Method: A non-abrasive damp cloth should be used to clean the body of the appliance.
  • Hygiene Standards: The manufacturer states that the coffee maker is produced in compliance with European Hygiene standards, and all materials used are recyclable at the end of the appliance's life cycle. Users are also encouraged to follow simple hygiene rules.
  • Repair and Service: A critical warning is issued against attempting to repair the appliance independently. Users are instructed to contact authorized personnel, their dealer, or the manufacturer directly for any repairs.
  • Wire Cord: It is explicitly stated: "NEVER REPLACE THE WIRE CORD." This suggests that the power cord is a specialized component or that replacement should only be handled by authorized service personnel.

The Johny AK/8-4 is presented as a durable and reliable partner for coffee preparation, emphasizing respect for traditional brewing methods while adhering to modern safety and quality standards.
