Overview

The INVAVENT MAXI is an ultra-high efficiency whole-house extract ventilation system designed to provide continuous mechanical extract ventilation in domestic and, in some cases, commercial applications. It complies with System 3 Continuous mechanical extract (MEV) as detailed in the 2006 Edition of the U.K Building Regulations Approved Document F1: Means of Ventilation (applicable in England and Wales), and with the current Building (Scotland) Regulations and Ireland's Technical Guidance Document (TGD) 2008 Part F: Ventilation. The system is designed to be "future proof" and energy efficient, meeting the requirements of the 'Code for Sustainable Homes' and being Appendix Q eligible under the SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) methodology.

Function Description:

The INVAVENT MAXI silently and continuously ventilates homes by removing humidity from "wet" service areas (bathrooms, kitchens, etc.) and creating a flow of "dry" air in "lived-in" areas (dining areas, studies, bedrooms, etc.). This process establishes a permanent air path through the property, from dry habitable rooms to wet rooms. The appliance is fitted with brushless three-phase motors with electronically controlled three-speed operation, allowing for precise control over the ventilation rate. It is a modular appliance, which simplifies maintenance and part replacement. The unit has five vents: one positioned at the top right for expelling stale air, and the other four for extracting humidity and stale air.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Compliance: U.K Building Regulations Approved Document F1 (2006), Building (Scotland) Regulations (BRE Digest 398), Ireland's Technical Guidance Document (TGD) 2008 Part F (2008), EU Directive 2012/19/EC.
  • Ventilation System: System 3 Continuous mechanical extract (MEV).
  • Motor Type: Brushless three-phase motors with electronic control.
  • Speed Settings: Three-speed operation (minimum, medium, maximum), electronically controlled.
  • Power Supply: 230V~50Hz AC.
  • Ducting Size: 125 mm diameter (round) or 204 x 60 mm (rectangular).
  • Minimum High Rate (System 3): Kitchens 13 l/s, utilities and bathrooms 8 l/s, sanitary only 6 l/s.
  • Minimum Low Rate (System 3): Calculated based on the number of bedrooms (Table 1.1b, page 7), no less than 0.3 l/s per m² of internal floor area, plus 4 l/s for each additional occupant over the anticipated two for the first bedroom and one for each of the others.
  • Building (Scotland) Regulations: 0.5 air changes per hour throughout the property.
  • Potentiometer Settings: Two potentiometers for setting minimum (Vmin) and maximum (Vmax) speed parameters. Default settings are Vmax=600 and Vmin=400. Vmax can be adjusted from 600 to 2500 rpm.
  • Wiring (Three-phase engines): Requires connection to 380-415V (or 400V) three-phase lines, or 220-240V (or 230V) three-phase lines.
  • Wiring (Single-phase engines): Requires connection to 220-240V (or 230V) single-phase lines.

Usage Features:

  • Installation Flexibility: Can be wall or ceiling mounted, vertically, horizontally, or inclined, in false ceilings, mezzanines, or ceilings. Fixed in position using slots on the base.
  • Adjustable Airflow: The volume of air extracted is set by moving adjustable vents in line with unit requirements and current legislation. Incoming air enters via intakes (e.g., grilles) positioned on walls or windows of "lived-in" areas.
  • Speed Selection: An external switch allows selection from the three operating speeds.
  • Potentiometer Adjustment: The minimum and maximum speed parameters are set via two potentiometers on the electronics board. Adjustments must be made within one hour of connecting the appliance to the mains. To make subsequent adjustments, the appliance must be disconnected and reconnected, then potentiometers turned fully anti-clockwise to reset.
  • Blanking Caps: If certain extraction vents are not used, they should be sealed with provided blanking caps to prevent leaks and ensure proper air extraction from active areas.
  • Safety: The appliance should not be used for functions other than those described. It should be kept out of reach of children and infirm persons. It is not suitable for areas with flammable vapours. The appliance contains moving parts that can remain in motion for several seconds after disconnection from the mains; wait at least 10 seconds before opening. Electronic components may remain electrically charged.
  • User Operation: This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, provided they have received supervision or instruction concerning safe use and understand the hazards involved. Cleaning and user maintenance should not be performed by children without supervision.

Maintenance Features:

  • Scheduled Maintenance: Appliances in the INVAVENT MAXI do not require scheduled maintenance work.
  • Recommended Cleaning: It is recommended to have the inside of the appliances cleaned every 3-4 years by a qualified technician, depending on the degree of pollution in the served areas.
  • Cleaning Procedure:
    • Disconnect the appliance from the mains.
    • Remove blanking caps from unused vents to access the blades.
    • Check blades for dust; clean if the layer is more than 1 mm deep.
    • Check motor bearings by spinning the blades; good bearings make no noise. If blades rotate jerkily and stop, it indicates "clogging" (typical for units with permanent magnet motors).
    • Ensure blades rotate smoothly on the driveshaft.
    • After cleaning, reposition blanking caps.
    • Reconnect the appliance to the mains.
  • Vent Cleaning: Vents should be cleaned regularly to ensure optimal performance. Ensure system settings are not interfered with. Vents with no filter can be removed and cleaned with warm water and liquid detergent. Replace vents after cleaning.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the appliance for visible defects. If it malfunctions, do not use it and contact Joule immediately. Use only genuine original Joule spares for repairs.
  • Modifications: No modifications of any kind should be made to the appliance.
  • Air Inlets: Air inlets in different areas need periodic cleaning, and care must be taken not to change their degree of openness.

Important Installation Notes for the Installer:

  • Electrical System: The electrical system must comply with applicable regulations.
  • Switch: An omnipolar switch with a minimum contact opening distance of 3 mm or higher is required for installation, enabling complete disconnection under overvoltage category III conditions.
  • Ducting: Connecting pipes must be the right size (125 mm diameter or 204 x 60 mm if rectangular). Ducting that leads to or crosses unheated areas should be insulated to prevent condensation.
  • Discharge: Ensure the appliance discharges into a single duct (dedicated to this product) or directly to the outside.
  • Air Quality: Air to be extracted must be clean (free of grease, soot, chemical and corrosive agents, and explosive or flammable mixtures).
  • Obstruction: Do not cover or block appliance intake or outlet vent grilles to ensure optimum airflow.
  • Power Supply Disconnection: Switch off the appliance at the main switch for: malfunction, cleaning, or prolonged non-use.
  • Initial Speed Setting:
    • Remove the upper cover by undoing the fixing screw and using a lever.
    • With the speed selector circuit breaker closed, change Vmax (600 to 2500 rpm).
    • Open the speed selector circuit breaker, change Vmin (400 to Vmax).
    • Wait 5 minutes for the appliance to memorize the new settings.
    • Turn the power supply OFF, then ON, and check settings.
    • If minimum airflow cannot be met at minimum speed, set the appliance to achieve it at medium speed.
    • Setting should be done for Vmax first, then Vmin.
    • Obtaining necessary airflow involves both speed setting and the degree to which intake vents are opened.
    • Increasing motor speed increases power consumption and noise.

Warranty:

The appliance comes with a 2-year guarantee against faulty material or workmanship. The guarantee is valid only if the appliance has been used according to instructions, connected to a suitable electricity supply, and not subjected to misuse, neglect, damage, or unauthorized modification/repair. The correct electricity supply voltage is indicated on the rating plate. The guarantee is normally available to the original purchaser but can be transferred upon written application. In case of a defect, the appliance should be returned to an approved Joule stockist.
