Overview

The LA GARD 5750 is an Electronic Entry Device, a keypad-based system designed for secure access to safes and vaults. It is compatible with various electronic locks, including 4200 (solenoid) and 4200M (motor), 3800/3801/3802/3803 Firmware, 4300 (solenoid) and 4300M (motor), 3800/3801/3802/3803 Firmware, and 6040 (solenoid) and 6040M (motor) High Security electronic locks.

Function Description

The primary function of the LA GARD 5750 is to control access to a safe or vault by requiring a valid combination. The device processes user input from its keypad and communicates with the connected lock mechanism to either grant or deny entry. It incorporates several security and user-friendly features to ensure reliable operation and protection.

Usage Features

Opening the Lock: To open the lock, the user must enter a valid six-digit combination. The factory default combination is 1-2-3-4-5-6. Upon successful entry, the lock will provide a "double signal," consisting of two LED flashes and two beeps, indicating that the combination is valid and accepted. Within four seconds of this signal, the user must turn the keypad clockwise for a deadbolt-style lock or turn the handle to the open position for a swing bolt-style lock, and then pull the door open. If an invalid combination is entered, the lock will signal three times (three LED flashes and three beeps).

Changing Your Combination: For security, it is crucial to change the combination from the factory default before putting the lock into operation. This operation should always be performed with the door open. The process involves:

  1. Entering "zero" six times.
  2. Entering the existing six-digit combination once.
  3. Entering the NEW six-digit combination two times. If a mistake is made during this process, the user should wait thirty seconds and then repeat steps 1-3. After setting a new combination, it is recommended to test the lock operation several times before closing the door. When selecting a new combination, users are cautioned against using predictable data such as birthdays, as this could compromise security. The new combination should be kept secret.

Keypad Backlighting: The keypad features backlighting for ease of use in low-light conditions. Pressing either of the lightbulb icons on the keypad will illuminate the panel keys for approximately eight seconds. This feature is designed not to adversely affect battery life when used in conjunction with normal keypad usage.

Audio and Visual Signals: The device provides clear feedback through audio beeps and visual LED flashes:

  • Double Signal: Two LED flashes and two beeps indicate a valid or accepted entry.
  • Triple Signal: Three LED flashes and three beeps indicate an invalid or not accepted entry.

Wrong Try Penalty: To deter unauthorized access attempts, the LA GARD 5750 incorporates a wrong try penalty. Entering four consecutive invalid combinations will initiate a five-minute delay period. During this delay, the LED will flash red at ten-second intervals, and the keypad will not respond to any keystrokes. If, after the five-minute delay, two more consecutive invalid combinations are entered, the five-minute delay period will restart.

Maintenance Features

Low Battery Warning: The device provides a clear warning when the battery power is low. Repeated LED flashing and beeping during an opening operation indicate that the battery needs immediate replacement.

Changing Your Battery: The LA GARD 5750 uses one 9-Volt alkaline battery (e.g., Duracell™ or Eveready™). It is recommended to replace the battery at least once a year. The lock contains a non-volatile memory, meaning it will retain all programming even if the batteries are removed or depleted. To change the battery:

  1. Open the battery door, a black plastic compartment cover located at the bottom of the keypad, by gently pulling the tab down and to the right.
  2. Allow the battery and its attached leads to drop down and out of the compartment. If it doesn't drop, gently pull on the battery until it comes out.
  3. Remove the connector by unsnapping it from the two terminals on the top of the battery.
  4. CAUTION: Hold onto the battery terminal connector to avoid pulling the wires out of the housing.
  5. Before installing a new battery, press and hold the zero (0) key for ten seconds.
  6. Connect a new 9-Volt Alkaline battery to the battery clip.
  7. Gently push the battery and the leads completely into the battery compartment.
  8. Close the battery door by rotating it up and to the left, gently pressing the latch side into place.

This comprehensive set of features ensures that the LA GARD 5750 provides a secure, reliable, and user-friendly experience for managing access to safes and vaults.
