Overview

Kalorik Hot Stone Pizza Oven (PZM 43618 R)

The Kalorik Hot Stone Pizza Oven (Model PZM 43618 R) is a compact, countertop appliance designed to bring the authentic taste of brick-oven pizza into your home. This device utilizes a removable pizza stone and dual heating elements to cook pizzas quickly and efficiently, achieving temperatures up to 715°F (380°C). Its design focuses on ease of use, quick cooking times, and versatility, allowing users to prepare a variety of pizza types and other flatbreads.

Function Description:

The pizza oven operates by preheating a removable pizza stone to very high temperatures, mimicking a traditional brick oven. Once preheated, the pizza is placed directly onto the hot stone, where it cooks rapidly. The appliance features both upper and lower heating elements to ensure even cooking and a perfectly crispy crust. A transparent viewing window allows users to monitor the cooking process without opening the lid, thus maintaining consistent internal temperatures. The integrated timer knob (up to 15 minutes) helps in managing cooking durations, while the thermostat knob offers precise temperature control across five distinct settings. The included pizza peels facilitate safe placement and removal of pizzas from the hot stone, and a pizza cutter is provided for serving.

    • Setting 5: 715 °F / 380 °C
  • Timer: 15-minute knob (manual shut-off required for temperature control)
  • Key Components: Lid, viewing window, handles, heating element, removable pizza stone, pizza peels, pizza cutter, timer knob, indicator light, thermostat knob.
  • Safety Features: Polarized plug, requires operation with pizza stone in place.

Usage Features:

Before First Use: Upon unpacking, users should wash the pizza peels and pizza cutter in hot, soapy water and dry them. The pizza stone should be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and then dried with a paper towel, ensuring the cavity is dry before operation. It is recommended to heat the unit on the highest setting for approximately 10 minutes with the lid closed and no food inside. This process helps to eliminate any manufacturing residues or "new appliance" smells. The pizza stone does not require seasoning before its initial use.

Operating Instructions:

  1. Placement: Position the appliance on a stable, horizontal, clean, level, and heat-resistant surface, ensuring it is at least 8 inches (20 cm) away from surrounding objects. All controls should be set to "0" before plugging in.
  2. Preheating: Insert the power plug into an outlet. Turn the thermostat knob to the desired temperature setting (e.g., Setting 5 for maximum heat) and allow the unit to preheat for 5 to 15 minutes. The indicator light will turn off after approximately 5 minutes to signal that the unit is preheated and ready.
  3. Pizza Preparation: Prepare your pizza dough (fresh, frozen, or store-bought) and toppings. If using fresh dough, gently prick it with a fork before adding ingredients. For uncooked pizza that is too soft to transfer with peels, place the dough directly onto a square of parchment paper (sized to the pizza stone), add toppings, and then transfer the pizza with the parchment paper onto the hot stone.
  4. Cooking: Open the lid (using oven mitts due to extreme heat) and quickly slide the pizza onto the heated stone using the pizza peels. Close the lid and set the timer to the desired cooking duration. The viewing window allows monitoring of the cooking process.
  5. Removal: Once the timer goes off and the pizza is cooked to desired doneness, carefully open the lid using oven mitts. Remove the pizza using the pizza peels.
  6. Post-Cooking: After use, turn all knobs to "0" and unplug the unit. Allow the pizza stone to cool completely before scraping off any melted cheese or fallen ingredients to prevent smoking or burning during subsequent uses.

Pizza and Dough Types: The Kalorik Hot Stone Pizza Oven is versatile, accommodating various pizza types:

  • Frozen Pizza: Cook directly from the freezer. Start on Setting 1 for about 4 minutes to defrost, then adjust to Setting 2 or 3 for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Fresh Pizza: Utilize homemade or store-bought fresh pizza dough.
  • Pitta Pizza: Use pitta bread as a base, adding toppings and cooking for 2-3 minutes.
  • Calzone: Fold the crust over toppings and seal the edges, cooking until golden. The oven can also be used for preparing flatbreads or open-faced sandwiches.

Important Usage Notes:

  • Never use the pizza cutter or a knife directly on the pizza stone to avoid damage. Remove the pizza before cutting.
  • The pizza stone will naturally darken with use; this is part of the seasoning process and does not affect performance.
  • When using parchment paper for soft dough, do not leave it in the oven for more than 2 minutes, as it can char and cause smoke. Do not use wax paper as a substitute.
  • The timer does not have an auto shut-off feature for the heating elements. The appliance will continue to heat until the temperature dial is turned to the minimum setting and the unit is unplugged.

Maintenance Features:

General Cleaning:

  • Always clean the appliance after each use.
  • Unplug the unit and ensure all knobs are in the "0" position.
  • Allow the unit to cool down completely before cleaning any part.
  • Wipe the outer body with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. A non-abrasive liquid cleanser can be used for stubborn stains.
  • DO NOT IMMERSE THE APPLIANCE IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID.

Reversible Pizza Stone: The pizza stone is reversible, allowing use on both sides. To change sides, scrape off any food remains from the currently used side, then remove the stone from the base, flip it, and replace it. Ensure the side facing the lower heating element is free of food debris.

Cleaning the Reversible Stone:

  • Never use cooking oil or any types of detergents to clean the cooking stone.
  • DO NOT immerse the stone in water or use cleaning liquids/detergents. Immersion can cause the stone to crack and absorb chemicals, which could then transfer to food during baking.
  • Daily Cleaning: Scrape off excess food with the metal paddles or a stiff-bristled brush, then wipe clean with a paper towel or a clean dishcloth.
  • Stain Removal: Pizza stones are porous and will absorb fats and oils, leading to stains. This is normal and does not affect taste or performance, though cooking residue can cause smoke/odor.
    • For small stains, scrub with a toothbrush and a paste made from equal parts baking soda and water. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry completely.
    • For burnt-on food, use a scouring pad or scraper lightly over stubborn areas.
    • For heavy accumulation, use hard-abrasive sandpaper to clean the surface.
    • Always wipe the stone clean with a damp cloth and allow it to dry completely before use.

Deep Cleaning the Pizza Stone: Prepare a paste by mixing 1/3 cup of baking soda with 3 tablespoons of water. Apply the paste to the stained areas of the pizza stone and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Scrape off the excess paste and food, then wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

Cleaning the Viewing Window:

  • Always allow the unit to cool completely before cleaning the window.
  • The viewing window will darken over time due to cooking vapors.
  • To clean, make a paste from 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1 teaspoon white vinegar, and 1 teaspoon of water. Rub this paste onto the viewing window or rear vent area and wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Storage: Do not store any materials other than manufacturer-recommended accessories in the appliance when not in use. Ensure the appliance is clean and completely dry before storing.
