Overview

This document describes the HK CARPLAY 10W video interface, designed to integrate Wireless CarPlay and Wired Android Auto into Hyundai and Kia vehicles.

Function Description:

The HK CARPLAY 10W is a video interface that allows users to integrate Apple CarPlay (wireless) and Android Auto (wired) functionalities into their existing vehicle infotainment system. It acts as an intermediary, converting signals from a smartphone to be displayed and controlled on the car's screen. The system supports touch control and can be switched between the OEM screen and the interface screen using existing car buttons.

Compatibility:

The device is compatible with the following vehicle models and screen sizes:

  • Hyundai Genesis G80: 9.2" screen (2014-2018)
  • Hyundai Genesis G380: 9.2" screen (2014-2018)
  • Hyundai Genesis DH330: 9.2" screen (2014-2018)
  • Kia Cadenza (K7): (2016-2019.09)

Key Components:

The HK CARPLAY 10W system includes several components:

  • Interface (White) (HD-GN-2017-TDC3): The main video interface unit with various ports for power, CAN, touch, and digital signals.
  • Power Cable (9.2"): Connects the interface to the vehicle's power supply.
  • LVDS Cable (White) + Extension cable: Used for video signal transmission to and from the car's display.
  • Mode Switch: A physical switch to change between different input modes.
  • KPLAY Unit: The core unit for CarPlay/Android Auto functionality.
  • KPLAY Power Cable: Powers the KPLAY unit.

    • Pin 1 (Red): ACC
    • Pin 2 (Black): GND
  • Touch:
    • Pin 1 (Black): Y+
    • Pin 2 (Green): X+
    • Pin 3 (White): Y-
    • Pin 4 (Red): X-

Usage Features:

  • KPLAY Control: The main screen provides options for CarPlay, Android Auto, USB Media, and Settings.
  • Apple CarPlay: Supports wireless connection (Bluetooth) and wired connection.
  • Android Auto: Supports wired connection.
  • USB Media: Allows playback of video, music, and images from a USB device.
  • Settings:
    • Language settings: Change the language of the settings screen.
    • Auto Phone Connect: Automatically launch Android Auto or Apple CarPlay when a smartphone is connected (wired connection only).
    • Driver Position: Adjusts the display for left or right-hand drive.
    • Wireless CarPlay: Connects Apple CarPlay wirelessly via Bluetooth.
    • Use touch on Android Auto: Enables/disables touch control for Android Auto.
    • Link Type: Selects Android Auto or Carlife (Carlife is "do not select" and "Update Coming Soon").
    • Volume control: Adjusts the volume of KPLAY.
    • Firmware Information: Displays current firmware version and allows for system updates.
  • iPhone Wireless Connection:
    1. Activate Wireless CarPlay in KPLAY Settings Menu.
    2. Choose "CarPlay-BT" in Bluetooth settings on iPhone.
    3. Enter PIN "0000".
    4. Select "Allow" for contacts and favorites sync.
    5. Select "Use CarPlay" on iPhone.
    6. Enjoy CarPlay. (Note: Bluetooth will be disconnected and connected via Wi-Fi after connection).
  • Button Control:
    • Genesis G80/G380/DH330: Long press the "Hang up" button on the steering wheel to switch between OEM screen and interface screen.
    • Cadenza (K7): Long press the "Mode Switch" button to switch between OEM screen and interface screen.
  • Touch Calibration: To calibrate the touch screen, touch and hold anywhere on the screen for 10 seconds, then touch the center of the "+" icon.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting iPhone Wireless Connection:
    1. Ensure Siri is active.
    2. Delete Bluetooth and CarPlay records from iPhone.
    3. Disable and re-enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
    4. If the issue persists, reboot KPLAY and iPhone.
  • Troubleshooting Android Phone Connection:
    1. Verify the Android Auto application is installed on the smartphone.
    2. Replace the USB cable.
    3. If the issue persists, reboot KPLAY and iPhone.
  • Firmware Update:
    1. Add the firmware file (provided in the root folder) to a USB drive.
    2. Connect the USB drive to the KPLAY board. The USB media will be scanned automatically.
    3. Press the Home button on the top right corner of the USB Media screen and select the Settings menu.
    4. Select "Sys Update" from the Settings menu.
    5. After the device reboots, check the message and wait for the update to complete.
    • Warning: If a USB with firmware is connected, the update will be performed every time the device is rebooted.

Warnings:

  • Please contact your dealer if any component is missing.
  • Due to the nature of the wireless connection, sometimes the connection may not work properly. If this occurs, follow the troubleshooting steps provided.
  • Android Auto may not run even if the cable is not broken. Follow troubleshooting steps if this occurs.
